The ghost ship

The Sister
October 17th 2010 was a day that I will never forget. I saw my sister a few times that day but at 8:17 p.m. was the last time I saw her. My sister is a smart girl but she trusted a lot of people and I believe that this time she trusted the wrong person. We called the police and reported her as a missing person, but the police just said that since she was nineteen she probrably just ran away from home to live her own life. My sister loved this family and she would never leave us, especially without saying goodbye. I’m now the same age she was when she disapeared. It's hard for a nine year old to lose her sister but I managed to live through it by believing I could find her.

Practice Makes Perfect
One of my earliest and fondest memories of my Grandmother is playing Slumbering Child. The rules were simple: my sister and I would lie in our beds and pretend to sleep while Grandma tried everything from tickling to bribery to trick us into revealing we were awake. When we got older, Grandma told us stories of creatures that would come in the night and devour us if they knew we were awake.

Regret
There was a little boy who had to live with her grandmother. Since he was born, he did not know her parent only her grandmother. Her life was not easy. They do not have a lot to survive. Her poor grandmother had to sell food across the street. The boy was very brilliant. He kept motivating himself by going to school and helping her grandmother after school. He was smart, quiet, and respectful.

The Darkness
There weren’t always dragons in the valley. Until tonight when the veil appeared thinnest, barely a fine mist hanging in the air. Through it Mina could see the Otherside. The darkness here contained all the relics of the past. As the clouds parted across an empty sky behind her in Hatherden she could see orange fire streaks billow and disappear in all directions beyond the soft brume. She squinted at the mirage, questioning for a moment the truth of a place she knew existed but had never seen. The place where darkness was alive and watching her every move now. Her word was her bond and even in death, Vaggar had said, the darkness would still see her. Even in death her debt would not have been paid and so darkness, laying its claim, would follow her wherever her soul wended.
