  • Why the 'Child's Play' Reboot Is Completely Unnecessary

As proven, Chucky is an icon, and a definitive character we, as fans, never get tired of seeing. His growth in film history has stretched past the media, and has entered online stores as actual life-sized dolls (Trick or Treat Studios), as well as figurines. In that case, Chucky is more than a character. He’s a souvenir, an ostentatious display reflecting our passion for not only the killer doll, but for the reign of terror he inflicts and holds with him on screen. Chucky, as an increasingly classical character in pop culture, has set such a mysterious and rare path that could seemingly lead the franchise on a broader outlook on what’s new to come out of this franchise, as well as the characters. There’s so much potential for this franchise to be continued... But something so unexpected and unwanted has happened, that either shocked us to the core, or made us hang our heads in disappointment—or both. That unfortunate occurrence was the announcement of this 2019 reboot, that is said to be a homage to the original 1988 cult classic, Child’s Play. “Homage?” I think not. While this reboot has went viral in the universal news of horror, it appears that it’s looked at as neither the revival of Chucky, nor the failure of Chucky. Well in my book, it’s definitely not a revival, and there are many reasons as to why that is. And, there are even more reasons why this reboot is completely pointless and serves no purpose for the fate of Chucky.
