James Reviews: 'Happy Death Day 2U'
Slasher flicks seem to have died off in recent years. Sure, Scream may have found a home as TV series but it's been a while since we've gotten a Friday the 13th, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, or A Nightmare on Elm Street. Yesteryear, the amount of movies in the genre that were coming out made it seem that they were going out of fashion, and well, they sorta did. They're still with us and continue to be a popular topic, but there's something uniquely different about them. Characters are no longer cutouts for a cast of stereotypes; they're now deeply complex people with goals and ambitions. Gone are the cheesy plot lines and exaggerated kills. Now, the focus is to provide a captivating plot with realistic deaths. In a sense, the killers have now become characters on their own, and the genre is no more than whodunit flicks with blood. Each entry now feels like its own ambitious vision, and Happy Death Day 2U is no exception, even if it gets too sidetracked for its own good.

Reed Alexander's Horror Review of 'The Lighthouse' (2019)
This movie was absolutely gripping! There has been a recent trend of Lovecraftian style movies done in black and white. The Call of Cthulhu, for instance was done as a silent film in the same dulled fashion as the original Nosferatu. The retelling of The Colour Out Of Space was done as a black and white to emphasize the unnatural nature of The Colour.

'The Witch' and Questioning What It Means to Be a Horror Fan
After the final credits rolled, I rose from my seat, walked out of the movie theater, got in to my friend's car and went back home. We talked about the movie for a while and then decided to call it a night to leave for our respective homes. I sat down on my couch telling myself that I didn't want to go to bed. I was scared.

'Doctor Sleep' REVIEW—Perfectly Executed Sequel
One of my most anticipated films of 2019 is about to be released, and I was able to catch this at a special early access screening for the film where I got to watch it a couple days before its wide release, and I am ready to talk about this damn movie.

That Pain in My Knee
I could sit this way forever. My knees bent into an angle of pain as they hugged my chest. I wrap my arms around them and hold them close. The melanin in my face absorbs the sun as it beats down on me. I am thankful for the ocean's mist that dabs onto my skin, cooling it from the sun. Staring at the waves is the only moment of stillness. I’ve lived here on the Mariana Island’s for 12 years now. I’ve seen so many women come and go, but I remain. I have no permission to be here ever, I am always to stay indoors, obey and work. The ego that lives inside of me, that fire that tried to bite, kick and kill those three men who brought me here, still exists. I never changed. I never fell in love with these men, the regulars that visit me or the traveling perverts who come to see us. When I close my eyes at night, I imagine San Diego again, what my older twin brothers look like now. I wonder if the Krispy Kreme donut shop is still around the corner from my house. At 10 years old, my mom got breast cancer and then I went missing. I dream that she is still alive, not burdened by cancer or worrying about me. She doesn’t need to worry about me because I am adaptable. I adapted to the world I grew up in and the world I know now. I always imagine my mother happy and healthy.

Trick-or-Treating Gone Wrong
It all started on Halloween night of 2019. On Halloween night 2019, it was about 11 PM and I wanted to go trick-or-treating. I'm 33 years old but you're never too old for free candy. They always say never go trick-or-treating alone just in case something happens, but I figured that was for little kids. I am an adult. I have a fixed blade knife in my pocket and I know how to protect myself. I was walking by myself drown the old dirt road that I knew was creepy because it had no street lights, but since I was trick-or-treating, I was walking to a neighborhood and that old dirt road was a shortcut.

'A Nightmare on Elm Street' (1984)—A Movie Review
Elm Street must not be a fun street to live on. People have nightmares every night. A monstrous figure stalks teenagers in their dreams, giving chase, before viciously killing them. Fighting sleep, Nancy ends at nothing to defeat this ghostly child murderer even if she has to go into her dreams to do so.

'Psycho' (1960)—A Movie Review
Oh, look, pull up right here! Hmm, The Bates Motel. Sounds like a cozy place to rest for the night. Running away with stolen money, Marion Crane is in a struggle between right and wrong. Driving along the roads on a rainy evening, it isn’t until stopping at The Bates Motel when everything takes a dark turn of events.
