'Black Christmas' (1974)

If this review doesn't make your skin crawl... it's probably because it's not scary... although the film is fu**ing terrifying!

A Christmas horror full of excitement and terror! (Spoiler Free)

1974's Black Christmas is a dark, gory and intense view into the frighting reality of the human mind, enforced by an exaggerated and un-stereotypical approach towards horror allowing for a truly terrifying viewing that will most probably make your skin crawl! Unless it is too tight obviously...

Today's opinionated film review is on (If you haven't guessed already) 1974's Black Christmas which happens to be one of my favourite horror/thriller films of the 20th century due to its exciting and overall horrifying style and ambience. This creepy depiction of home invasion with a Christmas twist generates an unexpected, who-dun-it approach which corresponds well with the chosen genre (horror). The film in question focuses on an escaped mental patient named Billy on the hunt for severe revenge that on his return home discovers that the home he once lived in is now a sorority house that upon entry through an unlocked door invests an abundance of time in delivering sick and twisted prank calls and messages to the several girls who are present in the same house and slowly picks each of them off one by one in a variety of horrifying ways such as suffocation, stabbing, hitting, and hanging giving, all you blood thirsty gore fans something to sink your teeth into.

Billy is a truly creepy son of a b*** complete with a sharp razor blade voice unlike any I have heard before which enforces his scary nature and sheer intent to brutally kill his victims. The viewer never sees Billy's face although, the voice alone and brief glimpses of facial features are enough to give you some serious nightmares, especially the part when you can clearly see his eye looking through the keyhole whilst watching one of the girls. In addition, the film has an incredible amount of real life detail allowing for the viewers to totally relate and care for each character (excluding Billy obviously). The acting is completely top notch in my own opinion and again helps to lend a realistic view onto the fact that Billy could be out there waiting for his next victims. The nightmarish conclusion near the end of the film when the final survivor discovers that not only are her friends dead but she is locked in a large house with an insane serial killer which is a truly creepy and uncomfortable thought as you worry for the final woman that leads to an epic fight for survival which eventually leads to a truly creepy ending (which I refuse to spoil), making you question if you remembered to lock the door or if that noise you heard was just your imagination... could it be Billy? You'll have to find out that one by yourself I'm afraid.

So why not treat yourself to a few nightmares? Christmas may be over but it's definitely not too late to get scared! Especially when at this moment in time the full film is literally on YouTube for free! Although I would always recommend watching the Blu-Ray and DVD Enhanced edition copies with the lights turned down fully for an exceptional horror experience that in my opinion is hard to beat. The whole film in my opinion still looks good and continues to creep me out with every viewing and still to this day I continue to double check the doors and windows are locked before I go to bed... Thanks Black Christmas...

Oh... And if you want my opinion on the 2006 remake, definitely stick to the original.. the remake sucks the big one.

Thanks for reading my review—I have inserted the film's trailer at the very bottom so definitely check it out :)
