The Unknown Shadow: A Terrifying Experience of One Night!

I was never a believer in the supernatural.

I always thought that anything unusual people spoke about was either born from fear or vivid imagination.

But one night, an incident shattered all my beliefs.

Even today, thinking about that night makes my body sweat and my chest feel unbearably heavy.

It All Started So Normally

This happened about three years ago.

I had a job interview in a town far from my village. After the interview, as I was returning home, dusk had already fallen.

There was a shortcut to the main road — a narrow dirt path through a dense forest.

The locals had warned me not to use that road after dark.

Some even said, "You might encounter an unknown shadow there."

I laughed it off, thinking it was just another village legend.

The Mistake I Made

To save time, I chose the shortcut.

The surroundings quickly became pitch dark. Only the headlight from my motorbike lit the narrow road ahead.

There were still a few bicycles and rickshaw vans around, so I wasn't too scared.

But as I entered the deeper parts of the forest, the world around me became eerily silent.

No sounds — just the crunch of dry leaves under my feet.

Suddenly, a thin mist descended, and a strange chill brushed against my skin.

I shivered without knowing why.

The First Encounter with the Shadow

That's when I saw it — about 15–20 yards ahead — a shadowy human figure.

At first, I thought it was just another passerby.

But as I looked closely, I realized something horrifying —

the figure wasn’t casting any shadow on the ground.

It stood still, seemingly staring straight at me through the mist.

I froze.

My body felt numb, and my throat went dry.

As I cautiously stepped forward, the shadow quietly drifted into the dense forest without making a single sound.

I tried convincing myself it was just an illusion caused by mist and fear.

But It Wasn’t Over Yet

After walking another 10–15 steps, I saw the shadow again — this time, even closer.

It was a blurry shape, but unmistakably human-like.

And now, faint crying sounds reached my ears — soft, heart-wrenching sobs coming from somewhere nearby.

I stood frozen, my legs trembling.

My instinct screamed at me to run, but I forced myself to walk faster.

Yet no matter how quickly I walked, it felt as though the crying sounds were following me — closing in from behind.

I dared not turn around.

A Strange and Chilling Experience

Suddenly, the air around me grew heavy and cold.

I felt a cold breath brush against the back of my neck.

That's when I lost it.

I broke into a full sprint, running as fast as I could.

It felt like the earth beneath my feet had softened, as if unseen hands were trying to hold me back.

My heart pounded wildly, my vision blurred with fear.

Finally, in the distance, I spotted a faint light — a small tin shop.

I ran towards it with all my strength.

As I neared the shop, the heavy feeling in the air lifted, the crying stopped, and the cold vanished.

I didn’t stop running until I reached the shop.

The shopkeeper looked at me, surprised and worried.

He asked, “Did you come through the forest road? Nobody uses that road at night! Didn’t you know? A girl died there a few years ago — some say her spirit still haunts that path.”

I couldn’t speak.

I simply nodded, struggling to catch my breath, silently praying never to have to cross that path again.

Even Now, I Wonder...

What did I really encounter that night?

Was it just my mind playing tricks on me?

Or was it truly an unknown shadow that followed me through the forest?

That night remains the most terrifying memory of my life.
