Famous quips from Churchill.
Lady Astor: “If I were married to you, I’d put poison in your coffee.”
Reply: “If I were married to you, I’d drink it.”
Another classic clapback by Winston Churchill: When a woman told him, "You're drunk!", and she added, and disgustedly drunk, he responded: "And you, ma'am, are ugly, and disgustedly ugly, But in the morning I will be sober and you will still be ugly
This quip is not entirely Churchill’s,
Churchill was, however, relying on his photographic memory for this riposte. In the 1934 movie It’s a Gift, W.C. Fields’s character, told he is drunk, responds, “Yeah, and you’re crazy. But I’ll be sober tomorrow and you’ll be crazy the rest of your life.” Verdict: Churchill editing W.C. Fields.STILL, A FABULOUS SNAPBACK.
Churchill was the best, most brilliant statesman the U.K. Had in the 20th century, and very funny.
