Why Are We Ignoring Easter?

Cancelling of Christ!

Why are we ignoring Easter in the UK? Easter is, besides Christmas, one of the most important events in Christendom. Never mind which denomination we belong to or what calendar we follow, Easter is celebrated by all churches. The story of Jesus and His last supper, where He proclaimed the breaking of bread and the drinking of red wine. This represented the breaking of His body on the cross and His blood, which He shed. It also represents the Third Day, upon which he arose, defeating death and ascending to His Father in Heaven. His followers are promised eternal life, salvation, and redemption.

Europe has always been known as the bastion of Christendom. Much like the Middle East for Islam or the Far East for Buddhism. Christianity has not always been known as the bastion of peace. The church has split time and again over differences in doctrine. Christ's name was used to conquer other lands beyond, by Europeans. The view was that we would conquer their land, steal their resources, settle their lands, and turn the heathen into good Christians. This is what is known as colonialism. Perhaps a similar thing can be seen today in Christian Zionist support for Israel. A land founded by Jewish Europeans, where the native Palestinians have been suffering ever since. Zionist Christians believe that the founding of modern-day Israel in 1948 was the fulfilment of Biblical Prophecy. Which will initiate the second coming of Christ. However, not all Christians believe this, as the secular state of Israel, though proclaimed a Jewish state, is a million miles away from the Biblical Israel.

The UK has been a Christian nation for a thousand years or more. Celtic, Anglo-Saxon, Vikings, and Normans (cousins of the Vikings) all accepted and practised Christianity. Originally, they were all Pagans, but eventually accepted Christ. The church has always been a place of welfare, health, and sanctuary, even providing employment. The church even dabbled in science, and all this before the state took over much of this. So, the church to sum up, has done a lot of good around the world and at home. However, the church has also been involved in scandals of one sort or another. Which is a shame, as this does not recognise or represent Christ's teachings.

The church today remains a strong hub of activity and belief in the UK. Yes, fewer people attend church, and yes, fewer people identify as Christians. Secularism and other faiths are around in the UK now, like Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Sikhism, Buddhism, etc. Atheism is also a prominent belief amongst many people. Despite all this, Christianity is still the main faith of the UK.

However, in the last few years, such Christian celebrations like Easter and Christmas have not been promoted as they were. All you will see at Christmas in the UK is ads featuring Santa Claus with no mention of Christ at all. That is because of secularism, atheism, and not wishing to offend other faiths. It's the same at Easter, all you will see on Easter egg boxes are pictures of eggs and bunnies. No mention or no scenes of what Christ did for us.

Christian preachers on the street are being arrested for espousing the message of Christ. Easter is being cancelled in schools because they do not wish to offend non-Christians. I kid you not, these things are happening in the UK today. For some reason, Islam, a minority faith in the UK, is being promoted. You will see Ramadan being promoted on the side of the buses, and yet, not one word on Lent. The question is, why? Why is Christianity under attack in a land where it was once dominant?

As I said, secularism, atheism, and other faiths haven't helped. Despite all this, Christianity could still be proclaimed by the government. The churches could be more vocal and promote the message of Christ. Seeing as this is not the case, the decision not to promote and proclaim Christ is a decision that the powers that be have taken. A decision taken by anti-Christians, secularists, and those who do not wish to offend other faiths.

It could also be that people have fallen out of love with the church because it is no longer the harbinger of Christ's message. Yes, we are taught to love all and help all, but when it comes to embracing Rainbow flags, that cannot be right. Other things have become our god, instead of God. Sport, consumerism, drugs, alcohol, money, pornography, and social media. And yes, Satan, who uses all these things to distract us.

However, as Christians, we have history on our side. Our faith has survived persecutions and oppressions before. Through Christ, we will survive this age and Christians as God's people are fighting back and challenging this evil age. And finally, when this life ends, we will be with Him forever. Not only that, but He has promised to return, and that is the day believers look to no matter what this society throws at us.
