The mysterious power of breath

Today, the complications of life are so many that every person is entangled in them. A stressful life has become the destiny of today. In such times, the teachings of Lord Buddha have become relevant.

Amit was a young man who was surrounded by immense struggles in life. He worked in a reputed company, but mental stress had taken away his peace. There was always some worry in his mind- tension of work, uncertainty of the future, ups and downs in relationships.

One day, when he became very mentally disturbed. All the doors of his life seemed closed, he heard from a friend that the teachings of Lord Buddha can change life. His mind was full of doubts, yet he set out on a journey to the Buddha Ashram.

Amit reached the Buddha Ashram after a journey of many days. The atmosphere there was full of immense peace. As soon as he reached in front of Buddha, he bowed down and said, "Lord, I am very troubled. I am not getting peace in life, is there any solution?"

The Buddha smiled and asked, "Do you pay attention to your breath?"

Amit was shocked, "Meditation on the breath? I just breathe, but never paid attention to it."

The Buddha said, "This is the root of your trouble. Unless you understand your breath, you will not be able to find peace in life."

The Buddha made Amit sit under a shady tree and said, "Just watch your breath—how it comes, how it goes. Don't try to control it, just feel it."

For the first few minutes, Amit's mind wandered, but as he practiced observing his breath, a unique feeling began to come. He felt as if his thoughts were gradually becoming calm.

After practicing this sadhana for a few days, Amit felt that his anger was reducing, anxiety was decreasing and he was feeling more calm than before. One day, he asked the Buddha, "Lord, how is this possible?"

Buddha smiled and said, "All the poison in your mind is coming out through your breath. When you start observing your breath, you also start realizing your thoughts. This realization is the first step towards liberation." You have to do this regularly.

One day, when Amit was meditating, a person came there and started insulting him. Earlier Amit would get angry, but now he focused on his breath and remained calm. Seeing this, the person was shocked and said, "How did this change come in you?"

Amit replied with a smile, "I have recognized the power of my breath."

Gautam Buddha used to preach to his disciples every day. Along with the disciples, other people also used to come to listen to Buddha's sermons. One day when Buddha was giving a sermon, a person came and he said that Tathagata, I want to ask you many questions. My mind is very restless. Please answer my questions, so that my mind can become calm.

Buddha told him that I will definitely answer your questions. But, you will have to observe silence for one year. After one year, whatever you ask, you will definitely get its answer. That person said that after one year you will definitely answer my questions, right? Buddha said that I am sure of my words, I will answer all your questions, but after one year.

Accepting Buddha's words, that person took a vow of silence. Slowly, due to that silence, his mind started getting concentrated, he started meditating. The mind also started becoming calm. All his questions started ending. One year passed.

After the time was over, Buddha told that person that now you can ask me all your questions. Hearing this, that person laughed and said that a year ago I had many questions in my mind, but now all the questions have calmed down. Now I do not have any question to ask you.

Buddha told that person that as long as our mind is not calm, many questions keep arising in the mind, its problems remain. Due to ignorance and confusion, our mind is not able to reach the answers to the questions. If we understand the situation by observing silence for some time, then the answers to all the questions start coming automatically.

When the mind becomes calm, all the questions also end. We start understanding all the things easily and get happiness and peace in life.

If you want to stay healthy in life, then sometimes you should also observe a vow of silence. The meaning of silence is to speak less and think more. In that situation, we contemplate, and the ideas of finding a solution to the problem come to the mind. Also, by focusing on breathing, the mind becomes concentrated. Stress goes away. And when there is no stressful life, then you will be healthy.

The simple thing that Amit learned while staying in the Buddha Ashram became the biggest gift of his life. Breaths are not only a means of survival, but they take us to the depths of our mind. The one who understands his breaths can solve every problem of his life.

So, are you ready to watch your breath?
