The Lost Years to be Written
Seeing in some light in the Dark Ages
In a world with so little understanding, The Middle Ages were left in the dark, but were they? Old books have always amused me. It was a delicacy of the aristocracy of Lords and Ladies. I would instead create the very books that will be found later. Of course, people have yet to learn who the makers were. To write a secret accurate account of the times. So many were uneducated then and wanted to see if history needed to include something. I would have to be married, even just for convenience. Women's rights were nonexistent in Christian Europe. So, I will have to help him or even run things. Women were not of high status, even if they were royal.
Living in such a place is still dangerous but worth it. The Royals were even more messed up than anyone imagined. So many times, things were covered up, and I just kept the secret record. I have a bargain that I am not wholly a serf. So, I have more autonomy than most. My convenient husband is a decent man, but I must survive somehow. It will be complicated with unsanitary conditions and diseases like the bubonic plague.
The books would be tedious work with tanning the leather to make the covers and the paper for the books. This will all have to be done by hand. The rich are not that patient at any time, and the work would always continue. But making the essential book is only the beginning. Though it would only take a long time to finish just that. Words would be another task, but I will not do that. I can build but need better handwriting. No matter the time, work is never done with time. It will be a long day at the job but making works of art.
These will be the valuables of tomorrow. A secret history to record what so many will not. It is a rough world and yet share in a rarely owned item. The ones that survive will be looked at in every museum.
I want to make some cheaper books accessible to the public and maybe even try to educate the other serfs. This might anger the elite, so it must be kept secret. The advantage of the uneducated was always a plot to keep the serfs down. Ill-educated people are easier to control. To see the pheasants working their years away to see their overseers flourish. The grand castles protected them from fighting, but the outside villages were less critical. Though is it any different than the rich of the future? These would be unstable in the political realm to find some way to make as many allies as possible. Justice is also nonexistent with a lack of evidence.
So, my plot might just kill me if I make the wrong enemies. It would be a game of keeping friends in high places in case of any trouble. Playing the political game will be necessary if I will help all. Plus, keeping secrets away to be found later.
Weaponry would be a fascinating thing to see close. The many weapons of war and control. I would love to hide away a crossbow, being illegal in the day. Even the armor would be beautiful with so many designs. I would love to see the battles in walled cities with the catapult and trebuchet. It would be an uncertain world but see the technology change.
Even to see the precursor to the gun and cannon would be amazing, and just keep it written down.
Living without all the technology of the modern age would be a simple life. However, the work will be done without machines. It would still have many risks from ticking off royalty and keeping as many rights as I can get. I might even end up dead despite really trying to stay covert. It would not be an easy living, but most struggle through life. Seeing what was missed and lost throughout history would be an exciting life. If only we knew the lost knowledge and the castles' incredible engineering. Even the time of the banning of the crossbows. Times were dark, but do we truly understand our lives if we lived in a completely different time?

Nice article Sarah. So many times I want to throw my phone in the River but then thirty seconds later I check to webcam to see what the dog is doing. Enjoyed this.
I have to agree, it would have interesting aspects but would not be a easy life
