The traditional story concerning the origins of the Jagannath temple is that here the original image of Jagannath (a deity form of Vishnu) at the end of Dvapara yuga manifested near a banyan tree, near seashore in the form of an Indranila mani or the Blue Jewel.

*Direction of Chakra - There is a wheel of fortune or chakra on the top of temple which weight about a ton.The most amazing fact is that any viewer who views the chakra from a height at any point in Puri always sees that chakra faces towards itself.The chakra is actually 20 ft.
*Sound of Waves- Once you step inside the temple,you stop hearing the sound of the sea.According to myth,Goddess Subhadra wished that the temple would be a place of serenity,and in order to please her,the temple mutes the sound of the sea.
*No Shadow-No matter what time of the day it is,no matter where the sun is shining through in the sky,the temple doesn't have a shadow.Now if that is an architectural wonder or simply a miracle,that's still unknown.
*Direction of flag-The flag at the top of the Jagannath Temple flutters is an opposite to the direction in which wind blows.
*Reverse Gear of the sea breeze-Take any place on earth-during the daytime the breeze comes from the sea to the land and the opposite occures in the evening.However,in Puri,it is observed to be just the reverse.
*Deities Disintegration-The old idols of the deities are buried on one another when replaced by the new ones and it is said that they disintegrate on their own.
*The Magical Prasadam-About 2000-2000000 devotees visit the temple every day but the quantity of prasadam cooked in the temple remain exactly the same throughout the year any given day yet none of it goes insufficient or wasted.
*The Mysterious kitchen-The prasadam is cooked in earthen pots on the firewood and 7 pots are kept on the top of another.Enchantingly,the topmost pot gets cooked and the rest follow the same order.

Special features of Jagannath Temple-The Jagannath Temple is quite impressive with its 65-feet high sky-kissing spire with a stone-carved giant wheel at the top. The main temple is surrounded by several other shrines and temples, taken care of by around 6000 priests.
*Mystery Of Singhadwara-Another strange phenomenon is observed here.While entering from the first step of the Singhadwara,from inside the Jagannath Mandir,you will notice that there is no audible sound of ocaen.However,as you enter the temple from outside,you will able to hear the sound of ocean.
*The daily climb on Shikhara-Also,as per an 1800 years old tradition,a priest climb a top the Shikhara of the Jagannath Temple every day in order to change the flag.practiced religiously since the past 1800 years,it is believed that in case this ritual is ever missed,the Jagannath Temple will remain closed for a total of 18 years.By the way,the temple is as tall as a 45 storey building.
*No planes,no birds fly above the temple-You will be surprised to know that no birds or palnes fly above the temple.The site is no fly zone actually,which has not been declared by any state powers,but by some divine power.

The Jagannath Temple is an important Hindu temple dedicated to Jagannath, a form of Vishnu – one of the trinity of supreme divinity in Hinduism. Puri is in the state of Odisha, on the eastern coast of India.
The temple of Lord Shree Jagannatha at Puri is one of the oldest temples of the Hindus; well known all over the world. It is situated on the sacred Mahodadhi (presently known as Bay of Bengal). at latitude 19-19'-17'N and longitude 85-51-'-39'E. It is the most sacred shrine in India.
Puri:Completion is what everyone living on earth strives for and when it comes to fruition of pilgrimage in India, it could be achieved only after paying a visit to the holy city of Puri, located in the state of Odisha.
The place is held for veneration of the Lord Jagannath, one of the many names for Lord Krishna, which is significant for being the only shrine with most of the prominent goddesses installed here; Ladha, Lakshmi, Durga, Sati, Parvati and Shakti. Every year, the 'Rath Yatra', a Chariot Procession is being carried from the famed Jagannath Temple to Shri Gundicha Temple at 3 Km distance. Idols of Lord Krishna along with the brother Balarama and sister Subhadra are being carried in the chariot taken from the temple of Jagannath. Huge crowd from whole country gathers here to give a hand in drawing the chariot. Some people getting so blind in their faith and devotion for the Lord, they try to come under wheels of the chariot, considering it a divine vehicle.
Puri is not the name people knew it with long time back. It was Charitra, as mentioned by a Chinese pilgrim but the interpretation is open to doubt and speculation. When Chodaganga Deva constructed the temple of Purusottama Jagannath with presiding deity Lord Krishna as Jagannath with his Brother and Sister, the place come to be known as Purushottam Kshetra or Purushottam Puri. The name then got shortened and 'Puri' remained of the full.
Puri saw change in many hands administering it, from Mughals to British reign. There after till the present form of the Odisha was finalized, there were many regions in which Puri came and some that made Puri. Now, it has Puri Sagar sub-division.
The place was selected for one of the monasteries propagating teachings of Adi Shankaracharya. Puri came to be known for the works done by the saint here and people who sought in-depth studies on Advaita Vedanta still come here.
