Mahendra Singh Dhoni was born on July 7, 1981, in Ranchi, then in Bihar (now Jharkhand), India. He hailed from a middle-class Rajput family. His father, Pan Singh, worked as a pump operator for MECON, while his mother, Devaki Devi, was a homemaker. Dhoni had two siblings: an elder brother, Narendra Singh Dhoni, and a sister, Jayanti Gupta.
