Disney Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

Have you ever watched a Disney movie and think: "What can I take from this film that can inspire me as a child?" Most people think that we can't learn positive things from a Disney film. As someone who is a Christian and who loves Disney, I find that the fact that we can't take something that yes, deals with magic and witchcraft and change it to make it good is perposterous! I am not saying, by any means, that magic and witchcraft is okay or good, but what I am saying is that looking at these films we can grasp some good life lessons that we, as Christians, can agree with. Let's look at Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs!

What is the one life lesson that we learn from this movie? Do not talk to strangers. If Snow White did not invite the evil old hag in there would not have been a major problem. She would have still been alive!

The message of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is that true beauty comes from within. I agree with this statement because a person can look beautiful or handsome on the outside but be evil like the queen. Looks can be deceiving.

Something that always bugged me about this movie is that how can someone fall in love with a person without even knowing them? The issue I have with this story is that the Prince falls in love with Snow White without even getting to know her, and vice versa.

Something that I do love about Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was how we see the struggle that Snow White went through. Seeing how cruel Snow White's step mother was definitely made you sympathize for Snow. I also liked how they had Snow White pray for the dwarfs, showing that she believed in God or a Higher Power.

Something that bothered me about this movie was that they never talked about her father and what happened to him. I would have liked to know why he chose the evil queen as his wife. I also would have liked to know how he passed away, but I guess it wouldn't be a kid friendly film if we went down that route.

My favourite character is Grumpy. Most people would say Snow White, but in my opinion, Snow White was too naive. She believed everything she was told, even if it was a lie just because she wanted her dreams to come true. Grumpy was my favourite because he was blunt about how he felt. You'd think that being grumpy all the time that he was mean but Grumpy had a heart. He even cried for Snow White when all seemed lost. He even smiled becacuse Snow White had kissed him on the head before work.

My least favourite character is simple: The Evil Queen. The evil queen's jealousy is what makes her displeasing. I mean can you really be that vain? She loved her outer appearance way too much. What the Evil Queen missed was that it was what was on the inside that made you beautiful not what was on the outside.

The most powerful scene that stuck out to me the most was the part with the old hag. When the evil queen brought the apple to Snow White you felt angry at Snow White for allowing the witch to come in, especially after the dwarfs told her not to invite strangers in the house! The one question I had for Snow White was why did she invite the Old hag in even when she knew the dwarfs had warned her not to speak with strangers? I know that she wanted to be kind but honestly I would have thought that there was something about the old lady that did not seem right especially with how pushy she was to get into the house.

The character I resembled most with would probably be Grumpy. It is not that he was grumpy all the time because I am rather a happy person, but the fact of how protective he was with Snow White. He warned Snow White to be careful which shows that he cared even when he acted like he didn't.

The Evil Queen made me angry. Why? Because of how cruel she was towards Snow White. She made a princess wear rags and clean all because she wanted to be the fairest of the land, and when Snow White was still deemed as beautiful she decides to have her killed and her heart brought back to her! Like, who does that?!?

As I have stated in the previous paragraphs, I think the character I most respect is Grumpy. Though he seemed mean because of his grumpy behaviour there was some kindness in his heart after all. He did seem to care for Snow White when she fell into an enchanted sleep. He even cried! Grumpy is one dwarf that is so misunderstood!

As much as I don't feel that I have much resemblance with Snow White, I can say that I admire the fact that she dreams of meeting her prince Charming. The one thing I would like Snow White to learn is that you can't just marry any Prince that you just meet. You have to get to know them first. Why? Because as I stated before: looks can be decieving!

If I was a psychologist I would tell the evil Queen to stop focusing on her outer appearance and to stop worrying about what others think of her. The whole problem is that the Queen wants to be loved but she has to: 1. Love herself the way she is; 2. Learn to love others and; 3. Focus on what is inside.

In conclusion, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is a great movie. Even if there are character flaws in Snow White our main Character, it can still teach children that there is more to like than our outer beauty. It is what is on the inside that counts. It also teaches us not to allow just anyone in. Don't talk to strangers!
