Why The Tape Is So Important

In Silo Season 2

By WHB KHNPublished about a year ago 3 min read

In addition to serving as Juliette's greatest savior in the Silo season 1 finale, the heat tape is also crucial to the show's overall plot in season 2. Juliette accepts her fate and leaves Silo 18 after being told to do so in the closing minutes of Silo season 1. To the surprise of all, she not only disregards the cleanliness regulation but also lives a much longer life than any of the prior residents who were sent out. The fact that Juliette survived alters the way the residents of Silo 18 view the outside world because they always thought they would perish as soon as they left.

Episode 2 of Silo season 2 explores the fallout from the conclusion of season 1, emphasizing how Juliette's departure progressively ignites a revolt in Silo 18. The residents of Silo 18 are unsure if Juliette is still alive, but Bernard believes the heat tape she wore on her suit may have contributed to her survival. After the conclusion of season 1 briefly describes how the heat tape helped Juliette survive, it becomes a crucial narrative element in the first few episodes of season 2 of Silo.

At the end of Silo Season 1, Juliette was able to go outside thanks to heat tape

Bernard accuses Juliette of stealing a certain tape in the first few episodes of Silo season 1 after she takes over as sheriff. According to Juliette, who did steal the tape, it was of poor quality and was useless in the Mechanical because it wore off rapidly. The conclusion of Silo season 1 demonstrates that the tape Juliette had taken was used to seal the suits of those departing the Silo. In order to guarantee that the suits eventually deteriorated and exposed the ones leaving to the hazardous environment of the outside world, the IT purposefully used inferior tape to insulate them.

Luckily for Juliette, the Supply employees purposefully use premium tape that does not deteriorate quickly when they assist her in putting on her outfit. As a result, her suit stays intact and provides good insulation as she exits Silo 18, shielding her from the hazardous surroundings of the outside world. Because of this, despite the fact that every cleaner before Juliette perished just a few seconds after leaving Silo 18, Juliette lives long enough to locate another nearby Silo and enter it before it's too late.

Walker's Role in Juliette Getting the Heat Tape Explained

For years, if not decades, Martha Walker lives in the security of her familiar surroundings, never leaving her workshop. But as Silo season 1 comes to a close, she makes the connection and understands that she is the only one who can save Juliette from her impending doom. She thus confronts her anxieties and leaves her workshop to go see Carla from the Supply. She persuades Carla to send a stronger tape to insulate Juliette's suit after revealing her suspicion that the IT department forces them to put subpar tape on the suits.

After Carla offers to assist, the Supply personnel seal Juliette's suit's edges with high-quality hot tape. By making sure her suit withstands the harsh conditions of the outside world, Martha Walker is able to save Juliette. When Bernard learns what Walker and Carla may have done in the second episode of Silo season 2, they both have to deal with the fallout. In the early episodes of the second installment, the two ladies are imprisoned, which makes them fear that they will also be sent out to clean.

Why Bernard Brings Up Tape in Season 2's Address to the Silo

Bernard worries that a mutiny might break out in Silo 18 following Juliette's departure. At first, he finds it difficult to determine how he can put an end to the uprising before it's too late. Because he thinks that punishing Martha and Carla will effectively threaten other residents, he even gets them jailed. His later assertion that Juliette only lived longer than earlier cleaners because the IT purposefully sealed her suit with premium tape, however, demonstrates his power to control the populace.

He labels her a hero and tells his people what they want to hear rather than upsetting Juliette. He claims that by permitting the IT to apply a novel type of tape on her garment, she voluntarily risked her life. He concludes by telling the residents of Silo 18 that Juliette's sacrifice has been essential in assisting them in determining how to eventually escape their silo. In Silo season 2, he only temporarily quells the raging revolt, despite successfully selling his deception about the heat tape to a large number of inhabitants.
