Where Fiyero Is Going In Wicked's Ending
Fiyero Will Do Anything For Elphaba & Finding Her Is First On His List

Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), Glinda (Ariana Grande-Butera), and Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey) have a dramatic ending in the first edition of the two-part film adaptation of Wicked, with two of these three embarking on an unidentified quest. Things get complex when Glinda the Good Witch and the future Wicked With of the West fall in love with the same guy, as Wicked chronicles their friendship. Sometime after the official start of the term, Fiyero enrolls at Shiz University with Elphaba and Glinda. He befriends then-Galinda and eventually comes to feel something for Elphaba.
Wicked's conclusion becomes even more tense when Elphaba and Glinda's travel to the Emerald City goes horribly wrong. Back at Shiz, the word is broadcast over the radio when Madame Morrible (Michelle Yeoh) declares Elphaba a fugitive and a threat for defying the Wizard (Jeff Goldblum). Fiyero leaves Shiz as Elphaba runs away and Glinda remains to reconcile with the Wizard. Fiyero appears in Shiz's courtyard, appearing worried, before riding away on his horse via the front gate as the scene shifts to the supporting cast members of Wicked.
Fiyero's destination is not confirmed by the Wicked musical.
The staging of the Broadway production prevents this cutaway to the actions of Fiyero, Nessarose (Marissa Bode), and Boq (Ethan Slater) in "Defying Gravity." As a result, it provides no clue as to Fiyero's future in the immediate wake of Elphaba's escape in the film. Fiyero isn't seen again until Glinda announces their engagement following the time jump that occurs between the first and second acts, when he bids Elphaba and Glinda farewell before they go for the Emerald City.
During this period, when this is still her goal, Glinda most likely goes back to Shiz to train as a sorceress under Madame Morrible. It would make sense for her, Fiyero, Nessarose, and Boq to complete their schooling. Fiyero's description, however, is consistent with the desire to intervene as soon as Elphaba is in danger. In "Defying Gravity," Glinda is able to live her life as she would have after Elphaba and she exchange good wishes. She does not, however, understand Fiyero's affections for her closest buddy or the reasons behind his quick flight due to her.
In Wicked's conclusion, Fiyero is probably going to look for Elphaba.
Consequently, Fiyero's initial reaction upon learning of Elphaba's situation is to try to locate and shield her. He is most likely setting out to find Shiz when he rides off. The song "Defying Gravity" has the title "The Wicked Witch of the West" because Elphaba implies in its lyrics that she is traveling to Western Oz, which at least gives Fiyero a clue as to where to begin searching. Perhaps since he is familiar with the area, Fiyero thinks he can locate her because Winkie Country, his home country, is also part of Western Oz.
Given that Evil doesn't explicitly state in her proclamation that Elphaba is in the West, Fiyero may also be beginning his quest in Emerald City. Fiyero would discover a distraught Glinda and a long-gone Elphaba after racing to the last location he knew they were both. But then, instead of Shiz, Fiyero might return to Winkie Country. Shiz doesn't have to go to college if that's what it means in this context. He has also shown himself to be somewhat indifferent to being expelled from school, possibly only enrolling again at his family's persuasion.
How Fiyero's departure from Shiz Prepares His Wicked: Part Two Narrative
Fiyero's separation from Shiz serves as a fitting introduction to his more action-packed role in the musical's second act. Glinda serves as a spokesperson, while Fiyero becomes the Wizard's Captain of the Guard regardless of what he accomplished in the meantime. He has had little success using his position to continue searching for Elphaba, claiming to want to arrest her on the Wizard's behalf but truly wishing to protect her. It is hinted that since the events in the film, neither Fiyero nor Glinda have seen Elphaba.
Fiyero will stop at nothing to defend Elphaba when the stakes are high. Earlier in the novel, Fiyero is seen in the Wicked movie as more capable of becoming a soldier. He arrives at Shiz by himself on horseback instead of by carriage, and Bailey famously rides his Bridgerton horse in Wicked. Fiyero proves that Elphaba is his top priority by pursuing her from the moment she vanishes, even if he allows his relationship with Glinda to continue for too long.
