"Sonic the Hedgehog 3" was a huge hit in cinemas at the end of 2024. That shouldn't come as much of a surprise since Keanu Reeves was cast as Shadow the Hedgehog in the video game version. It was always going to be a hit.

It brings Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails together to face their biggest problem yet, and it makes them think about working together with Doctor Robotnik, their old enemy. The scrappy little team has to work together to face Shadow's destructive powers because the world's fate is at stake. And his gun. There is a gun that Shadow uses, in case you didn't know.

This movie has returning actors and actresses. Ben Schwartz will voice Sonic, James Marsden will play Tom, Colleen O'Shaughnessey will play Tails, and Idris Elba will play Knuckles. Krysten Ritter and Jorma Taccone will join the cast as newcomers. Also, there are two Jim Carreys out there, so take that for what it's worth.

Part 3: Is Sonic 3 Worth Streaming?

Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles fight Shadow and Professor Gerald in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, which is based on the story of Sonic Adventure 2. In this movie, Ben Schwartz, Colleen O'Shaughnessey, and Idris Elba all play their parts again, and Keanu Reeves joins the cast as Shadow. Jim Carrey plays Gerald on top of Doctor Robotnik.

The story has been changed a lot to fit the movie world, so now only the main points are left: After 50 years, Shadow has woken up again. This time, it was Professor Gerald who did it. Keanu Reeves gives a pretty good performance as Shadow, who is the opposite of Sonic and his friends' loud personalities. Shadow is the kind of tough guy that Reeves does best; think John Wick or Neo. Sonic 3 learned from Shadow Generations and made Shadow as cool as it can be. He has some funny one-liners that fit an anti-hero, but when he's sad, he really makes you feel what he's feeling. However, Shadow stands out in this movie because of the animation and fight scenes, especially when he gets to use his famous motorcycle and gun.

In many ways, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is still just a quick trip through the series' graves. The way the movie adds more human cast members from the past without explaining why is, at best, disturbing. It is also unclear what the newcomer Krysten Ritter is doing in this film, and even the people who made it are unsure of what she is doing. The director, Jeff Fowler, who was also responsible for the first two films, has sped them up even further, and the movie moves along at a rapid pace and is not difficult to follow.
