Verdict in: 'Legally Blonde' is Fabulous at Firehouse Center
Oh my God, Legally Blonde is a rocking good time!

There’s no retreat ‘cause you’re legally blonde.
Firehouse Center for the Arts presents the Broadway hit, Legally Blonde, inspired by the 2001 movie. Elle Woods is turned down by her boyfriend, Warner Huntington III, when he doesn’t think she’s serious enough. To prove him wrong, Elle gets accepted to Harvard Law School, where she finds herself in a trial solving a murder case.
Oh my God, Legally Blonde is a rocking good time! Firehouse Center for the Arts brought down the house with a fantastic, high-energy, and fierce performance of Legally Blonde. It is so much fun. This show represents a positive message of leading your own way while wearing your best pink shoes.
Tyler DeCouto awakens Elle Woods’ strong-willed confidence, singing voice, and signature pink style in an electric performance. Elle stands as an iconic leader whose journey and personal growth inspire female audiences to take on challenges, be bold, and ignore stereotypical views. Elle’s newfound discoveries are the best part of her character.
The cast is having the time of their lives on stage, and it shows through their passion, talents, and radiant smiles. The supporting cast of Legally Blonde is vital. There are so many memorable characters in this show who help in Elle’s journey.
William Davis-Kay is excellent as Emmett Forrest, who also grows in confidence thanks to Elle. One of the best things about theater is actors' unique choices in playing characters differently, like Conor O. Long’s aloof Warner Huntington III and Dolores Salamurovic's preppy portrayal of Vivienne. Hands down, Salamurovic’s voice is tremendous.
Playing Paulette is a dream role come true for Jules Ferolie, whose performance knocks it out of Ireland’s clover. Ferolie is a firecracker of sass and charismatic delight. She sang a beautiful rendition of ‘Ireland,’ which received an eruption of applause.
Lori Newsom (Pilar), Maya Gopalswamy (Margot), and Brielle Diaz Withers (Serena) have unstoppable energy as Elle’s Delta Nu best friends. Gracyn Rafuse put the snark, diva, and jump rope flair in Brooke Windham. Joe Couturier delivers a commanding performance as Professor Callahan, blending charm and an intimidating demeanor.
As I have said, and continue to believe, no small part exists in the theater. Energetic is not a big enough word to describe the ensemble of Legally Blonde. Roles like Kyle, Nikos, and Carlos merited hearty laughs and applause. Shaun Schnelson, a four-legged friend, also joins the fun playing Bruiser and Rufus.
Legally Blonde is a rather personal show for director Andy LeBlanc. This story’s impactful moral about setting judgments aside inspired LeBlanc to never stop being himself. LeBlanc’s direction soars in every layer of this glitter-gloss production.
No show is ever put on its feet alone without a fabulous tech crew that enhances the show with lighting, sound, and the signature pink stage design. Jill Tokac choreographs high-energy dances. You’ll find yourself yearning for the costumes supplied by Victoria Carot.
The auditorium turned into a dance floor with people bopping their heads to the signature songs. Firehouse Center’s auditorium illuminated the cast’s voices. ‘Bend and Snap,’ ‘Gay or European,’ ‘Whipped into Shape,’ and ‘So Much Better’ were the audience's favorite songs.
Legally Blonde is a powerful story about staying true to yourself. I love the heartwarming message of this show. Don’t ever judge a shoe based on its style. One never realizes what they are capable of until walking into the unexpected.
Legally Blonde is a blast! Wear your favorite pink outfit, take your friends, and don’t miss Legally Blonde at Firehouse Center of the Arts playing in Newburyport, MA until July 27.
