In the wake of tragedy, Silvano makes his way across the border only to discover that nothing ever works out quite the way we expect. Meanwhile, Solomon Eaton makes a border crossing of his own, forgetting his moral compass on the other side.

I do believe this is one of the more underrated series on shelves today. The writing is really rather good and the dual use of storytelling, the book versus real life, can be a most effective tool if done properly. Though it also goes to show you try to pick your heroes a little more based on real men than fictional ones and I guess it also goes to show that you should never meet your heroes to boot. Personally I really like this book and the kicker is i really like Silvano, at heart he’s a good kid just got mixed up with the wrong folks and he knew it which is why he crossed at the border like he did heading back into Mexico.

I am a huge fan of the way that this is being told. The story & plot development that we see through how the sequence of events unfold as well as how the reader learns information is impeccably well rendered. The character development we see through the dialogue, the character interaction as well as how they act and react to the situations and circumstances that they encounter really is phenomenal stuff. The pacing is superb and as it takes us through the pages revealing more and more of the story and how it takes us mucho años en el futuro to finish up the arc is extremely well done.

I really appreciate the way that we see this being structured and how the layers continue to grow, evolve and take us to the ending. The layers are where we see the great characterisation and the unexpected moments happening thanks to the avenues that we see being explored and whether they work with the main arc or simply surround it add such depth and complexity to the story. How we see everything working together to create the story’s ebb & flow as well as how it moves the story forward is achieved exceptionally well.

The interiors here are stunning to see. The linework is exquisite and how we see the varying weights and techniques being utilised to create the detail work is extraordinarily well rendered. How we see backgrounds being utilised throughout the book is fantastic, that two page spread with all the detail work is extraordinary, and how they not only enhance the moments but work within the composition of the panels to bring out the depth perception, sense of scale and the overall sense of size and scope of the story are showcased. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels show a marvellously talented eye for storytelling. The colour work is divine. How we see the various hues and tones within the colours being utilised to create the shading, highlights and shadow work shows such an adept eye for how colour works.

I am such a fan of this franchise and how we see the dual story telling. What I would really like to see is the writer of the books writing one that mimics his own life and how these two elements play off one another. Call it wishful thinking or whatnot but that’s my desire to see in this franchise at some point. In the meantime i’m okay with whatever is going to come next so long as something does. With some incredibly strong writing and sensational interiors I do believe that this is the most underrated book on stands.
