The Reasons Behind Animals' Forgetting How to Communicate in Wicked
It Seems Likely That She Is Using Her Powers

The recently released film adaptation of the well-known musical Wicked is already winning praise from reviewers and moviegoers alike. A fresh version of the musical's characters is brought to life by Wicked's gifted ensemble of singers and performers. The Wicked film, which was adapted from Gregory Maguire's novel, tackles more difficult subjects than The Wizard of Oz, such as discrimination and identity.
As Elphaba attends college and develops her abilities, Wicked follows her. At the same time, though, she recognizes that something far more evil is occurring with Oz's talking animals. Though first unclear, Wicked eventually reveals the reason behind the animals' disappearance and loss of speech, and by the book's conclusion, Elphaba has made the difficult decision to change their fate by doing what she believes is right.
Madame Morrible and the Wizard are taking animals away.
Elphaba is eager to begin her magical studies under Madame Morrible, the dean of sorcery, when she first gets to Shiz University. Madame Morrible discovers how strong Elphaba is during this procedure and starts to control her. Elphaba is one of the few individuals who stands up for the animals of Oz when they start to vanish or lose their capacity for speech throughout Wicked. Elphaba discovers that Madame Morrible and the Wizard were responsible for the animals' loss of humanity all along when she eventually has the opportunity to meet the Wizard.
Since the Wizard never possessed any magic of his own, Elphaba was also essential to the Wizard and Madame Morrible's scheme. Despite her abilities, Madame Morrible was aware that she couldn't carry out their scheme alone. To ultimately carry out their scheme to enslave the animals and gain total reign over Oz, they required Elphaba to read from the grimmerie.
Are Animals Impeded From Speaking by Madame Morrible's Magic?
It's safe to conclude that Madame Morrible is using her magic to take away the animals' capacity to communicate, even though Wicked doesn't explain how exactly. Madame Morrible is the impetus for the transformation because she and the Wizard came up with the idea to enslave the animals, and he is powerless. She would also have the knowledge of the animals of Oz to compel this shift because of her collaboration with the Wizard and her position of authority at Shiz University.
Madame Morrible completes her plan to subjugate the animals and grant the Wizard total authority over Oz when Elphaba reads from the Grimmerie.
Throughout Wicked, animals—including Elphaba's mentor and teacher Dr. Dillamond—disappear and lose their ability to speak, but Madame Morrible cannot carry out the latter parts of her scheme until she also utilizes Elphaba's abilities. Madame Morrible completes her plan to subjugate the animals and grant the Wizard total authority over Oz when Elphaba reads from the Grimmerie. Through Madame Morrible's acts, Wicked demonstrates how Elphaba will transform into the Wicked Witch of the West in the sequel.
Elphaba's Dance With Glinda In Wicked Explained
The friendship between Glinda (Ariana Grande) and Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), who will ultimately turn into the Wicked Witch, is at the center of Wicked, but it took a dance to get there. Not all of the time were the two budding witches pals. When they first met at Shiz University, they actually got off to a bad start. The fact that the rest of the school despises Elphaba due to her green skin and exalts Glinda doesn't help either.
After Glinda's trick on Elphaba in the Ozdust Ballroom goes awry, everything changes. Elphaba takes the high road and gets Glinda into Madame Morrible's magic class, something her roommate could not do on her own because Glinda isn't yet able to use magic in Wicked. Glinda takes the low road, putting Elphaba up for humiliation. Glinda joins Elphaba on the dance floor in an effort to make things right, and a lovely friendship that forms later on becomes the emotional center of Wicked, which broke a massive box office record for musicals with its $150 million+ profit.
