The Night Agent Season 2 Ending Explained

What Peter and Night Action Will Do Next

By WHB KHNPublished 12 months ago 6 min read

Major revelations are made at the end of The Night Agent season 2, which also sets up Peter's next big mission. Peter (Gabriel Basso) leads a raid on the evacuated UN building in the "Divergence" finale, where Markus (Michael Malarkey) planted K.X. gas canisters. Markus manages to get away even though the raid is successful in capturing every canister. Following a heated confrontation, Peter shoots Markus dead and takes back the final canister after Rose (Luciane Buchanan) and Peter follow him to an associate's girlfriend.

After stealing a UN file for "intelligence broker" Jacob Monroe (Louis Herthum), Peter then turns himself in to Night Action in the season two finale of The Night Agent. He bids Rose farewell for good since he faces prison time. The show jumps ahead in time to reveal that Rose returned to her work with ADverse and that Noor (Arienne Mandi) and her mother were granted asylum. As the episode comes to a close, Peter's boss Catherine (Amanda Warren) makes a deal with the disgraced agent: if he exposes his connections to the incoming President and works as a mole for Monroe (Louis Herthum), the charges against him will be dropped.

Why, without Night Action's knowledge, does Catherine want Peter to work for Jacob Monroe?

Throughout season two of The Night Agent, Monroe is a mysterious character who pulls strings. He obtained the Foxglove information for Bala, and in order to save Rose's life, Peter is subsequently compelled to make a deal with Monroe. Given that his own father was a traitor, Peter finds this to be very upsetting. Peter acknowledges his actions and is willing to accept the repercussions after Rose is secure and the threat has been eliminated. Finding out the specifics of Monroe's relationship with the incoming president is one way Catherine sees to take advantage of Peter.

The first flashback in "Divergence" takes place eight years ago, when Monroe first meets Hagan (Ward Horton), the man he will eventually shape into a presidential candidate. Since Knox, Hagan's rival, withdrew from the race late on, Hagan is virtually certain to win. With Monroe on Hagan's side, Catherine fears that every piece of classified intelligence that comes across his desk will be sold to the highest bidder.

The only way to find out Monroe's relationship with the current President is to put Peter undercover. Peter has an obligation to make amends because he directly influenced the election by stealing the UN file for Monroe. Peter and Catherine will also be acting without Night Action's consent because failure will have serious repercussions.

How Rose and Peter Put an End to the Foxglove Attack

Developed as part of a U.S. government program called Foxglove, K.X. gas is the primary threat in season two of The Night Agent. In order to develop vaccines for them, chemicals had to be weaponized. This was a preventive measure, theoretically, in case terrorists thought the same thing. The most deadly weapon that program produced before it was shut down was K.X. gas, and in episode 7, the crew of war criminal Viktor Bala kidnaps Rose and the creator of the weapon.

A fresh batch of K.X., which was supposed to be released inside the UN building, must be made. Rose and the other hostages are rescued by Peter after he obtains information from Monroe regarding the location of the gas production. As Bala's people plant K.X. canisters, the UN building is raided in the season two finale of The Night Agent.

Why Catherine Takes Peter Into Custody

When Peter strikes a deal with Monroe, he knows full well that he is dealing with the devil. Even though his main goal is to save Rose, Monroe makes it apparent that the real cost of the deal is that Peter will eventually become "owned" by him. This is the reason he told Catherine and Night Action everything, was prepared to serve time in prison as a result, and was arrested following Markus' murder.

When The Night Agent's second season premieres, Catherine is initially cold toward Peter because she thinks he lacks sufficient experience and skill. In the last scenes, Catherine reveals why she was reluctant to trust him: his father. Later, she grows to appreciate his abilities. Years ago, Catherine was one of the agents who revealed the wrongdoings of Peter's late father, who was a traitor. Furthermore, her suspicions about Peter seem (somewhat) reasonable given that the investigation resulted in the death of her ex-partner.

How, with Peter's assistance, Jacob Monroe manipulated the upcoming presidential election

Throughout the second season of The Night Agent, a presidential election is simmering in the background, with candidates Knox and Hagan competing. In the end, Knox abruptly withdraws from the race, effectively handing Hagan the presidency. This relates to Peter's work for Monroe, where he had to enter the UN covertly and take a specific file from the UN Secretary-General. This file, which Catherine later discloses, connected Knox to Foxglove and the sale of chemical weapons to Bala.

Bala is attempting to use K.X. at the UN in retaliation against America after using these weapons against his own people. Monroe used the file to make Knox drop out, despite the fact that his involvement in the Bala case had been kept secret. Therefore, in a very real sense, Peter's theft of the file assisted Monroe in gaining the presidency and the White House. This is obviously very bad news because it could give the broker access to a variety of classified military material.

Will Rose and Peter's Relationship End?

Peter and Rose parted ways at the end of The Night Agent season one, with the former departing to work as a Night Action agent. Nearly a year later, Rose is drawn into his most recent mission, which reignites their previous romance. In the final scene, Peter bids Rose farewell as he is arrested and advises her to avoid him.

Rose affirms that she is focused on her work and determines it is best to leave Peter behind while speaking with Noor in the aftermath. This implies that they are no longer together, but that is before Catherine lets Peter go so he can keep working with Monroe. Rose and Peter still have a chance to work things out because she will most likely return when The Night Agent season 3 airs.

What Takes Place After Noor Helps Peter One Final Time at the UN

During the first half of the season, Noor, who works at the Iranian embassy, looks for information to provide to the CIA in order to obtain asylum for her brother and mother. Unfortunately, Night Action's attempt to free Noor's brother and her mother from Iran results in his death. Throughout season 2, Noor endures a lot of hardship, particularly after Javad (Keon Alexander), the embassy's strict head of security, finds out about her involvement.

In the final scene, Noor helps Peter enter the UN and then manages to get away from him. The last scenes show that Noor and her mother have relocated to Illinois and obtained US citizenship. Rose also promises to support her and be a friend if she needs it when they reunite.

After the Ambassador implicates Javad, what will happen to him?

Noor finds Javad to be a charming love interest at first, but it soon becomes clear that he is cold. As Javad discovers Noor's relationship with the Americans, he becomes more brazen and aggressive, promising to have her returned to Iran while attempting to apprehend Peter for his sly mission inside the embassy. Additionally, Javad's tactics irritate Ambassador Abbas, particularly when it comes to a French report on Iranian dissidents abroad, which includes Abbas' own daughter.

Numerous surveillance camera recordings of Javad and Noor having a private conversation demonstrate Javad's obsession with destroying Noor. By claiming that Javad and Noor must have been conspiring to leak information to the Americans, the ambassador is able to implicate Javad. He is taken into custody and will most likely be returned to Iran for punishment.

How Season 3 of The Night Agent Is Set Up by the End of Season 2

The second season essentially sets the stage for The Night Agent season three, even though it tells its own whole story. It concludes with the suggestion that Monroe, who has displayed a casual disregard for life throughout the series, will have control over the next president. Night Action and Peter will also be battling the new President as a result of Peter going undercover with Monroe. However, Hagan has already displayed defiance toward his purported master, Monroe, indicating that their collaboration won't be easy either.
