'The Haves and the Have Nots' Season 7: What to Expect
Tyler Perry's popular series returns on January 7 and is advertised to be one of the best seasons yet.

The finale of The Haves and the Have Nots on July 2, 2019 left viewers wanting to know more about many unsolved issues surrounding three Savannah, Georgia, families: the Cryers, Harringtons, and Youngs.
Tyler Perry does all the creating, writing, directing, and producing the longest-running scripted series on Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN). Since it has been six months since the finale, let's discuss the major things that happened. Also, let's speculate about what to expect when the series returns on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 on OWN at 9 PM.
Season 6 Finale
Season 6 ended with a cliffhanger as most finales do. It was a shooting scene when Wyatt, played by Aaron O'Connell, fulfilled his threat to kill his parents, Jim and Katheryn Cryer, played by John Schneider and Renee Lawless. With his grandfather's double-barrel shotgun, Wyatt didn't hesitate to shoot both of them. He first shot Jim and then he shot Katheryn. Wyatt himself was shot by the police when they rushed in. When the finale ended, viewers did not know if any of the three Cryers survived.
Viewers saw who Wyatt shot and who shot him, but who survived? It would be unusual for three people in the same family to die and leave the show at once. If all three people died, it would be the end of the Cryer family. Remember, the daughter Amanda appeared only in the first season. She died of a supposedly self-inflicted gunshot wound. That was never proven.
Veronica Put a Hit Out on David
In the last episode, Veronica sent a group of men to David's house to kill him. She did not know her own son was in the house with his father. Neither did she know that David was prepared for what she was capable of doing. When the men charged in, David and Jeffrey rushed to get guns to protect themselves.
After Veronica heard gunfire, she assumed David had been killed because she did not know that he was prepared and was firing back. She did not stay around to confirm who was killed. Instead, she put out her cigarette on the pavement with her DNA. That proves she was at the scene.
Candace and Hanna
Candace has not gotten along with her mother during the entire series. Things will change in the upcoming season. Candace, played by Tika Sumpter, will bond with Hanna, played by Crystal Fox. It has been a long time coming, but Candace seems ready to treat her mother with respect as a mother should be treated. Candace was sympathetic when Hanna told her Derek had raped her and he was Candace's father.
It is interesting that Sumpter plays a doting mother of three children on Mixed-ish that airs on ABC on Tuesday nights. It is a spinoff of the hit show Black-ish.
Expectations for Season 7
The teaser for the upcoming season shows the series will return with a vengeance. There will be “revenge, heartbreak, betrayal, death and destruction in the lives of the characters.” So, who died and who survived another season on the series?
All the main characters are shown in the photo advertising the upcoming season as if they will still continue on The Haves and the Have Nots. So, perhaps none of the Cryers died. Someone on social media commented that the shooting did not actually happen. The person explained that he believes since Wyatt had taken drugs, he was probably in a trance and was dreaming of the killings, and it wasn't real at all. That makes sense since the Cryers are main characters. Viewers will find out for sure in a few weeks when the series returns.
A New Face
Geoffrey Owens, a former actor on The Cosby Show made headlines in 2018 when he was photographed bagging groceries at Trader Joe's. Tyler Perry promised him a role on The Haves and the Have Nots, and now he plays a senator on the show.
