Where is this actor now who was in one episode as the dentist Marcia was crushing on?

Marica falls for Dr. Dreamboat

I recently watched the 1973 episode of The Brady Bunch titled Love and the Older Man. Marcia Brady (Maurice McCormick), confided in her sister Jan Brady (Eve Plumb) that she had fallen for her dentist. "Dr. Dreamboat." Don Reid played Dr. Stanley Vogel, who asked Mike Brady (Robert Reed) if Marica could babysit for him.

The teen misunderstood and thought the dentist was asking her on a date to the opera. She later discovered he was married with children and broke their "date." He realized she had misunderstood but played along as she let him down gently.

Mike Carol and Alice take it all in stride

Marcia gets so caught up in her fantasy that she tells Jan she may one day become Mrs. Marcia Dentist as she fantasizes about a wedding ceremony. Marcia's mom, Carol Brady (Florence Henderson), and their housekeeper Alice ( Ann B Davis) joke about getting their dental work done by the dreamy doctor as Marcia floats through the house, completely smitten by the man.

Mike also took it all in stride and allowed his daughter to have her schoolgirl crush without interfering. In the end, Marcia went on a date with a friend of her brother, Greg Brady (Barry Williams), after previously turning him down because of her crush on the dentist.

Although Reid was only in a few scenes, he made an impression on young girls watching the episode who agreed with Marcia that the dentist was handsome. I don't know of any other memorable roles the actor had or if he were in any movies, but he has a list of television appearances on popular shows.

Don Reid's additional roles

Marcia was so smitten with her dreamboat dentist that she imagined marrying him. So what happened to Dr. Dream after this memorable episode?

Reid was quite active for a while and is known for appearing in many television series from the 1970s and 1980s, including Fantasy Island, Power, Police Woman, David Cassidy: Man Undercover, The Incredible Hulk, 240-Robert, Mission: Impossible, and Quincy M.E.

He was also in Charlie's Angels, Cannon, Future Cop, Columbo, and thirteen episodes of the ABC soap General Hospital as a character named Emil from 1989-1990. This is his last credited role. There is no information online about his birthdate, if he married or had children,if he acted beyond 1990, or if he is still living. How did such a handsome, talented actor disappear without a trace or even a Wikipedia page?

Don Reid is a common name in entertainment

At least three other men named Don Reid are in the entertainment business. One sang with The Statler Brothers, and an Australian actor by the same name appeared in Home and Away; who was born in 1931 and died in 2013, but the acting credits are not the same. There was also a different Don Reid, a writer and producer for The Brady Bunch. Two men with identical names are in the same series; one is in front of the camera, and the other is behind it.

This is not as rare as you may think because on General Hospital, there were two men named Chris Van Etten. One was a cast member who portrayed a wounded warrior, and the other was a writer. They were not related. Britannica has information on a Don Brit Reid.

It appears they have combined the info on the American actor and the one from Australia. Perhaps Reid left show business, began a different profession, and lived happily. For female fans of The Brady Bunch, he will always be Dr. Dreamboat, Stanley Vogel, the dentist.
