The Book Dragon's Lair
A.K.A Katie's Nerd Queendom!

Hello all, Katie here. Today, I am going to talk about my mega-ultra-super dream! The "have your cake and eat it too" dream (I'll have carrot cake with cream cheese frosting, please). What would I do to make money if I could wave a magic wand and make it happen? I would want a website/ blog that was my personal nerd queendom. A collection of blogs, I guess you could say. Where I could write about books, comic books, share my writing (poetry and short stories mostly), post some of my photos (maybe even sell some prints), and share my thoughts on life. A place where I could do it all.

I am a voracious reader, in the last two days I finished three books (it was a series and I just couldn’t stop). I love books, and yes, I love to share my opinions about them. I would love a section of the website to be dedicated to my obsession with the written word. Book reviews, or just a what am I reading today blog. Plus, I would write- which is better the book or the movie- blogs (spoiler alert I usually think it's the book). There are boundless topics to explore about books, and I would love to write about them all.

Recently (last couple of years) I have fallen head over heels for comic books. If you could see my room right now you would be treated to boxes full of comics and stacks of them all over the place (I have a really good problem- I have too many and am always behind which means I always have comics to read). I am fond of writing blogs about comic books that are off the beaten path, and comic books that people should be reading! Perhaps I happened to get an exclusive very rare comic book related pin… Or is there something going on in the comic book world? A new company making waves maybe (#BadIdea), or a new creator doing something cool- all would be fair game in my comic blog area.

I have been writing for as long as I can remember. Am I the only one that has unearthed middle school notebooks with god awful poetry inside? Writing like anything else requires practice and growth, and I have practiced (still practicing) and I have grown. I would love to share my, sometimes wackadoodle, poetry to brighten someone’s day, or make someone think. Here’s an example of something I wrote in response to some dirty looks I got over a hairstyle:
Blue Hair Says
Dear tight-rope lipped Steel loaded Glarer—
Dear Snow-haired Frown wielding Starer—
Dear scorn filled Fake compliment Bearer—
Blue haired, amused Spunk filled eyes Will. Not. Apologize!
Does the oceanic shade Offend your delicate Sensibilities?
Well to that Blue Hair says: “Tough-Titties.”
OK, maybe I am not mature- haha, but I didn’t read it to the offending individual so that’s pretty mature right? Some of my writings are serious, some funny, and some sarcastic as hell. If I had my Book Dragon's Lair, I could share it all.

I often wander around in nature and take pictures and think deep thoughts… well sometimes. Sometimes I am thinking about how I should really be doing laundry instead of snapping pictures of ducks (as I’ve mentioned in previous Vocal blogs, I have a taking pictures of ducks fetish). I like to take pictures and sometimes I think about what beauty really is, or what kind of difference I could make in the world, or why everyone is in such a hurry. Or… well, the list could virtually go on forever which is why this would also be a section in the Book Dragon’s Lair. I wouldn’t say no if people wanted to buy prints of the photo’s I take either. Everyone needs a duck photo! Or maybe a picture of some flowers or of an egret or some other pretty wildlife critter. Wink wink nudge nudge.
Now you know my plans to take over the world… wait what? No… err… I mean now you know my plans to create the ultimate nerd queendom. Right, that. If I could make money writing about my passions, that would make me as happy as a clam (wait... are clams particularly happy?) I would be able to enjoy what I do day in and day out and that would be the supreme prize of life! It’s not all about the money, but one can’t live on passion alone. Yet, the ultimate goal for the Book Dragon’s Lair would be to reach people. Are you interested in whether a movie stands up to the book? Do you want a comprehensive book review? Or are you new to comics and need some guidance? Do you need an uplifting rant about beauty being all around us? Do you need to smile, or maybe roll your eyes, while reading some poetry? The Book Dragon’s Lair is the place to go! Maybe I’m wrong, but I think everyone wants to make their mark. Everyone wants their words to matter to the world, or at least a small part of it. That’s what I want, for my words to go out into the ether and reach someone that needs to hear them.
