'Avanti!'
After watching Billy Wilder’s wonderfully sublime late period romantic comedy Avanti, I felt as if I just escaped to a wonderful paradise and left the worries of the world behind. That’s part of what magical Hollywood film making can do to us, they can lift us onto a different plain into a fantasy we sometimes hesitate to leave, even after the credits roll. I felt this way after watching Avanti. I was soaked into the wonderful world of Italy, humming the lovely theme music to myself afterwards, and having the kind of contentment only the best movies can put you in.

Stopping by Stars Hollow: A Critic’s First Watch of 'Gilmore Girls' - Season 1, Episode 10
Here’s a fun little plug to start off this review. A lovely friend of mine, Val, will be launching a new media review website called They Have Thoughts on June 1. Yours truly has been asked to be a main contributor on the project so go check it out if you want to see more in-depth entertainment critiques from writers of various artistic backgrounds. We’re all very opinionated, very verbose, and very, very blunt.

Stopping By Stars Hollow: A Critic’s First Watch of 'Gilmore Girls' - Season 1, Episode 9
Have you ever watched a couch burn? My friends and I burn furniture for fun and I highly recommend you try it. Just, ya know, do it safely. We don’t want to anger Smokey the Bear.

'Mary and the Witch's Flower' - Movie Review
*Spoiler Warning* The spiritual successor to Kiki’s Delivery Service and Howl’s Moving Castle is most definitely here. With Mary and the Witch’s Flower, Studio Ponoc have created a beautiful film for both children and adults to fall in love with.

'Stick It' Is Secretly the Greatest Sports Movie of All Time
In 2006, the greatest sports movie of all time was released. It was inspirational like Rudy, was funny and feminist like A League of Their Own, had heart like Hoosiers, and was ultimately about dads, like all great movies. It's also a movie Roger Ebert called "the story of a gymnast's comeback attempt as a backdrop for overwrought visual effects, music videos, sitcom dialogue, and general pandering."

'Solomon Kane': Netflix Lied to Me
Whilst I was perusing Netflix the other day, I came across this little flick. Written and directed by Michael J. Bassett, Solomon Kane is one of the most passable movies I have ever seen in my life. It is almost like eating a dollar store meatloaf. It is overall really bland and unpleasant, but it's got enough salt in it to give it at least a little bit of flavor. If you are wanting to go into this to find a hidden gem of 2009, you are going to be sorely disappointed.

Movie Review: 'Deadpool 2'
Deadpool 2 takes up the story after Deadpool/Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) suffers a tragedy. How is it possible for Deadpool, the snarkiest of the snarky superheroes, to genuinely feel a tragedy? You’ll have to see it for yourself. How this incident changes Deadpool is really not all that much. He becomes slightly morose for a time and then gets back to killing people.

Movie Review: 'Breaking In'
Breaking In stars Gabrielle Union as Shaun Russell, a mother of two whose estranged father supposedly was killed in a hit and run accident. But we know what really happened. An opening scene finds the father on a run when he’s hit by a truck driven by Eddie (Billy Burke), an ex-con after the father’s hidden cash. The cash is hidden in the father’s vacation home, which places Shaun and Eddie on an unwitting collision course.
