Monopoly on the Couch. Top Story - May 2023.
Does anyone still play board games? I have to wonder about this after many returns home over many years and noting the number of movies watched, drinks imbibed, sporting events ingested (I will not say “enjoyed”) and debates over politics and culture shouted across living rooms and kitchen tables. In my family, playing board games was very much a part of the deal. My mother taught me how important it was to play a game like Scrabble because of its use as a tool to learn how to spell and discover new words (and also a means to destroy an opponent’s sense of self-worth when they challenged your words and you sent them running to a dictionary to confirm a small victory). I played Scrabble on almost every trip to aunts, uncles and other relatives, along with endless sessions of Sorry!, dominoes, various card games, and the most challenging one for me: Monopoly.

Harry Potter and the State of the Fandom
Contradictory Truths can exist simultaneously. It's true that the Harry Potter books had a great deal of influence on the Millennial and Gen Z generations, shaping and inspiring them on issues like social justice, entrenched inequality, and institutional corruption. It's true that JK Rowling was possibly the first person to go from a billionaire to a millionaire due to the amount donated to Charity. It's true that Luminos, her main charity, has done great things for literacy in underprivileged children.

Scotland and Her Bonnie Prince Charlie- "Skye Boat Song"
When you watch an episode of Starz hit television show, Outlander, you are treated to an, edited for time, version of "Skye Boat Song" performed by Bear McCreary feat. Raya Yarbrough. This is a song that was written about a historical event, and is considered a folk song in Scotland that has been recorded a number of times since it was written. Written in the 19th century by Sir Harold Boulton, the song's lyrics told the story of the escape of Scotland's Bonnie Prince Charlie to the Isle of Skye following the Jacobite Revolution's defeat at the Battle of Culloden in 1746. Bonnie Prince Charlie, with the aide of the sympathies of Flora MacDonald, said to be disguised as a maid was able to obtain the passes needed to make the trip to the Isle of Skye where he continued movement to avoid capture.

Guardians of the Galaxy: A Cosmic Adventure with Room for Improvement
The Guardians of the Galaxy franchise has become a beloved staple in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, blending action, humor, and heart in a galactic spectacle. The latest installment continues the interstellar adventures of our ragtag group of misfits. As a fan of the franchise, I eagerly anticipated this new chapter, hoping to be transported once again to the far reaches of the cosmos. While the movie delivered on some fronts, with its signature wit and compelling character development, there were aspects that left me wanting more.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend
So we’ve done season 1 and talked about the major decisions that moved the plot along in the first season. And these videos are going to get a little longer as the show goes on because the subject matter also gets heavier. And some of the decisions that are made hit really close to home for me because I am also someone who has struggled with my mental health for quite a while now. And I think I’m going to do BoJack Horseman in congruence with Crazy Ex-Girlfriend because I do see a lot of parallels that I want to talk about. So with that, season 2 of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.

BoJack Horseman
The second season begins with a young BoJack watching Secretariat's interview while his parents scream at each other. The first day of filming doesn’t go as planned and really the amount of layers to this is amazing, there is the fact that he was a comedy sitcom star and maybe that mean he really isn’t a good actor, then there's the fact that he’s trying so hard to be a changed man and therefore he can’t go to the place he needs to go emotionally in order to play this part.

Better get dressed. We’re hitting up the city tonight. Saturday Night Fever is a classic 1977 film. The film follows the story of Tony Manero, a Brooklyn teenager who’d rather party at night than make something of his life. Anxious about his future, Tony tries to escape reality by taking up dance at a local disco.
