Poor Things
Poor Things starring Emma Stone was released at the end of December and it reminds us that film should be creative and a little bit weird. The movie takes risks and gives the audience a visually interesting exploration of humanity. Emma Stone delivers an Oscar winning performance and Mark Ruffalo delivers one of his most entertaining performances to date. Poor Things is sure to get the academy’s attention come nomination day and I can’t wait to see it receive recognition.

The Iron Claw
The Iron Claw finally has made its way to the big screen and it is easily one of the most amazing and upsetting movies of the year. The casting was incredible and the story is hauntingly accurate. The Iron Claw will probably be overlooked by the academy come Oscar nomination time, but that would be a mistake. The Iron Claw is seriously an incredible and emotionally gut wrenching movie. If you like family stories that might send you into a depression spiral or it might have you calling your siblings crying then this is for you.

The Last Voyage of the Demeter
When the first trailer was released for The Last Voyage of the Demeter, the film received some criticism. Even before its release people mocked the idea of Dracula on a boat. These people have never read Bram Stoker’s Dracula because the movie was based on the captain's log that was in fact in the novel. Which the movie directly tells you right at the beginning. But unfortunately most people dismissed this movie out of hand due to their own illiteracy.

The Color Purple
The Color Purple is a movie musical version of a stage play, which is a musical version of the movie, which is the adaptation of the book. It is the only piece of media with that many adaptations that has maintained quality every single time. The touching, gorgeous, incredible story and music of the stage musical translated so beautifully to the screen and The Color Purple is easily one of the best movies of the year. If you like movie musicals you will love this movie, and if you don’t love movie musicals you should still watch this movie. All the reasons I normally hear from people for why they don’t like musicals don’t at all apply to this film.
