Shrek is a GREAT movie
Last night, I opened Netflix on my kindle. Scrolling through the list of shows and films to watch, I became dizzy and overwhelmed by the mass choice out there until I saw Shrek. I saw it at the cinema and saw it so many times on tape that I wore it out. It was one of my favourite movies as a kid and I thought it was hilarious when I saw it at the cinema nearly 20 years ago. To this day, I still think it’s one of the best romantic comedy’s ever made, this is coming from somebody who dosen’t like the genre much because of the repetitive formula.

I Binge-watched 107 Films in 27 Days
So, I guess I should start this piece by telling you all a little something about the person writing it -that being me- and what lead to this article. I am a film school graduate who, prior to the pandemic, had been using my very expensive film school education to work a low paid job in the despatch department of a Media company. “Living the dream” some might say.

'Stay Tuned' - A Different Kind of Spoof Film
Hello, and welcome back to Second Chances where the maligned, forgotten, and ignored are always on the air. Remember when I talked about the movie Cloak & Dagger? Basically, I consider it not only one of my all-time favorite films, but also one of the best video game movies ever made. Some may hesitate to call it a "video game movie" since the titular game is just a plot point rather than the basis for the whole story. I actually consider it a great movie for that very reason. I enjoy the 1992 genre mash-up Stay Tuned for similar reasons.

Analysing my favourite scene from Inglorious Basterds
Full spoilers ahead. Tarantino's 2009 offering is an interesting case for long-term fans of his work. The usual format is there; whip-fast witticisms by characteristic and distinctive characters who lean in and out of the plot in adventures that could be stand-alone films in the hand of lesser directors, and a penchant for violence and unexpected death scenes. However, although its differences to the rest of the auteurs work are fairly surface-level, many people seemed rather alienated by the film when it was first released. There are many people out there who recognise it as a great film, but dismiss it as an average Tarantino film, which absolutely does not do it the justice it deserves.

Moxie Movie Review
TW: Mentions rape and emotional abuse Now, I wanna start this off by saying I am not a movie critic. I am not a professional in any meaning of the word when it comes to criticizing movies. This is simply just my opinion as a regular moviegoer. I wanted to create a conversation about the movies that we watch, hence this entire blog post. Also, spoiler alert! I will be talking about the movie in detail, so if you don’t want anything spoiled now is your chance to turn back. So without any further ado, here we go!

Mortal Kombat
Let’s get this out of the way right away: Mortal Kombat is not a movie meant for families. I’m saying that right off the jump because some parent somewhere will, inevitably, be talked into taking their child to see it because said-child plays the games or has watched someone play the games. The film is bloody, violent, and there is casual swearing galore. It earns its R rating, so if you’re the sort of parent who doesn’t want their child exposed to that sort of thing…first of all, pay closer attention to their media consumption, and second of all, sit this one out. Go see Godzilla vs. Kong instead.

The Uncomfortable Brilliance of ‘Shiva Baby’
Generally, we all try and avoid uncomfortable situations. Whether it is trying to avoid someone, a confrontation, or any of the other myriad of possibilities, we don’t want any part of it. We will quickly pull out our phones and escape whichever experience we were aiming to sidestep. The reason why is quite simple, we have all had enough of these uncomfortable experiences to know better. This fact makes it more interesting when a film aims to take the very thing we try to avoid and recreates that feeling as a part of the film’s experience. This is exactly what writer and director, Emma Seligman, does with her new film, Shiva Baby.

The Legend Of Lord Humongous
Disclaimer: This article originally appeared on Moviepilot and has been edited for publishing on Vocal. In 1979, the world was introduced to George Miller's nihilistic vision of future Australia in Mad Max. This was a world on the rack but not yet ruined, being slowly overrun by sadistic biker gangs led by monsters like the Toecutter.

Best Picture Winner 'The Artist' 10 Years Later . Top Story - April 2021.
In the 10 years since the release of The Artist and it's eventual Best Picture win at the Academy Awards in 2012, the film's lasting legacy is that a lot of people really liked the dog in the movie. Beyond that, it’s the hatred many hold for this admittedly lovely movie because it should not have won Best Picture. Now, most people likely could not name one of the several nominated movies that lost out and were more deserving than The Artist but I am not here to call anyone out or say that anyone is wrong for thinking The Artist as less than Best Picture caliber.

Movie Review: 'Here are the Young Men' Takes Advantage of Anya Taylor-Joy
Here are the Young Men is a young adult novel that must have been an absolute beast trying to adapt into a screenplay. Though the film has traditional characters and a gritty coming of age story, the book employs fanciful, dreamlike elements to communicate the mental state of the 4 male protagonists and one female character in their sphere. The film drops one of the male characters and tries to keep the fantasy and dream-like elements and comes off as chaotic and hard to follow.

Here's What We Know About 'Captain America 4'
Last Friday was the season finale of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and if you haven't seen it yet...you should. It was incredible and set up nicely for the next time we will see Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes back on our screens. And the next time we'll see them is in the officially confirmed CAPTAIN AMERICA 4.
