The 10 Worst Films of 2003 (according to the critics)
2003 is a year now primarily known for one thing: the controversial invasion of Iraq by a US-led coalition of forces under the premise of finding weapons of mass destruction (WMDs), which would ultimately lead to the Iraq War. The decision to invade the Middle Eastern country, the worldwide anti-war protests and the invasion that followed would dominate news and television for the bulk of the year in one miserable slog that would only worsen as the decade progressed.

Three Bits of Wisdom I took from ‘The Woman King’. Top Story - September 2022.
Recently, I checked out a fantastic film entitled “The Woman King” that dropped in theaters this year (September 16th). There were so many lessons that I learned from this movie, but I wanted to lay out a few that particularly landed with me.

Wake up, Venom, you unqualified villain, your strong enemy is coming
As the villain Venom is very unqualified, it has its independent mind, but it must be dependent on the host. This limits much of its character. For example, Venom in the movie "Deadly Guardian", was originally an alien life, brought to Earth by humans and then began to look for a host. After a misstep, it found the most suitable host, Eddie Brock.

Review: "Top Gun Maverick"
Top Gun Maverick by all logic is a film that should not work, but just as the action at times defies logic, the film is just a blast to watch. At times it feels as if Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt had been displaced from his Mission Impossible films and planted here in aviation school amongst the best of the best of their kind. Especially when watching the opening scene of Pete Mitchell “Maverick” taking a plane and making it exceed the fastest velocity a human has ever taken a plane. The way that his co-workers look up in awe at computer screens and declare Maverick to be the fastest man alive feels a bit absurd and self-congratulatory of the action maniac that is Cruise, despite these moments of absurdity, the film is likable, full of heart and just fun.

Review: "Barbarian"
Barbarian is a new horror film that may just be one of the better horror films of the year. It is inherently aware of the downfalls of telling a horror story and the tropes that come with the storytelling of horror and has moments where audiences will surely laugh. It is a tense film with characters that are put in situations that will make the audience feel claustrophobic, but the actors also are perfect in their roles which helps elevate the proceedings quite a bit. It is best to go into this movie knowing as little as possible, as the twists and turns that came at you have a way of making everything a bit more unnerving. Unlike most movie trailers these days, surprisingly the trailers and advertisement for Barbarian gives away nothing outside of the film’s initial setup which may lead to driving audiences away.

Avatar
Like many film fans at the moment, we went to go watch the re-screening of Avatar in preparation for the sequel’s release. Upon re-watching this movie I was thankful, so thankful that I fell asleep the first time it was released because this film is truly so terrible. And I am glad that I didn’t know how bad it was going into it, or I wouldn’t have watched it.

Shadows in the Sun - A Movie Review
Time is a precious thing. Consider your goals and keep on writing. Shadows in the Sun is a 2005 film. An aspiring agent for a publishing company tracks a literary client in rural Italy so he can publish a book. Tracking Weldon, the man doesn’t offer an easy time for Jeremy. However, this time provides an eye-opening lesson to both men.
