If The Best Man, Then Friends from College
People love to make grand generalized statements about the higher learning experience. College is a conundrum. It is never internalized the same from generation to generation or from one student to the next. The Best Man and Friends from College are hilarious depictions of people who have met lifelong friends in college and those who should probably distance themselves from their college tribe. It would be easier if these groups of friends named themselves like the Flossy Posse in Girls Trip or the Goonies, or Divas like Will’s mother and aunts in the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Alas, they do not, so you will see the word friend a lot.

Is It Really "More Than a Feeling?"
In 2020, TV became more than just background noise or an escape after a long workday. Streaming became a window to pre-pandemic life. Travel plans were nixed, concerts postponed, family holidays cancelled. To survive, we had to socially distance and mask-up, unable to even smile at a stranger while passing them in the grocery store. It’s been an incredibly isolating time, and for many, the only “people” allowed into their homes were the characters on a show or movie. We invited Moira and David Rose to dinner, Michael Scott was our boss, we went out at night with Carrie and Samantha. My friends and I turned first to these familiar shows in an attempt at some consistency in our lives—"Seinfeld", "The Office", "Parks and Rec", "Sex and the City".

From The Avatar to The Princess of Power
When it comes to these fantastic comic originating TV animations you can tell that the apple didn’t fall far from the tree. It’s hard to believe at points that these shows are originally aimed for children; their exploration of character development delves deeply into the psychology of their protagonists to the point it becomes questioningly psychological thrillers.

All Around Entertainment
Six hundred and thirty-nine episodes in counting, two hundred countries, five main characters, and three remarkable people started it all. The Simpson's, a sketch about a family and their day-to-day life in Springfield, that turned into a phenomenal sensation. Listen, don't click the back button; hear it out. You have to start at the beginning, no, not the beginning of the season you saw on television after you finished watching Cops. Start at season one; episode one, take a journey along with millions of people. I know what you're thinking. I used to have similar thoughts, "It's too many episodes; I don't have the time. People only mention it because it is popular." Yes, I agree, but for valid reasons, though. This show has impacted the world by its different introductions, memorable catchphrases, and remarkable writing.

Was Game of Thrones a little too dark and gruesome?
Was Game of Thrones a little too gory and had a little too much sex for you? The series took the world by storm when it debuted on HBO in May 2011. The books by George R. R. Martin had already been in the public eye since 1996. Prior to the show airing, the series, A Song of Ice and Fire, had 4 books. This epic fantasy set in a medieval-esque world called Westeros contained a large number of characters, and even with reducing them for the TV version, it could still become overwhelming. The story, for the most part, revolves around the Stark family group, even as they are split up and scattered around the world.

The TV Experience
If you are like me, then over the past year in quarantine, you learned a lot about the role that television can play in your life. I learned that sometimes the length and tone of a show is as important as the actual content. So, rather than recommending a specific formula for what to watch next, I suggest you think instead about how you want to consume television.

Information, Escape and Sarcasm in Small Doses
After cutting the cable at our house, (the satellite in our case) and with nothing else to do during a global pandemic, I spent more time than I’d like to admit exploring the vast world of streaming options quite literally at our fingertips. And while I like to stay informed and learn new things, life has been so heavy and serious as of late. I want to enjoy a little lighthearted escape now and then. I’m sure you do as well. That’s why I’m here to talk about the rise of my new love; the docu-reality comedy genre and its cousin, the pop-culture short form video.
