SuperBad - The Perfect Coming of Age Movie
Why SuperBad was Super Good

Spending more time at home has provided us with the unique opportunity to watch more television now than ever. I've rewatched Grey's Anatomy, The Office, and Sex and the City so I figured it was time to revisit a favorite movie of mine, Superbad!
The popular kids - we wanted so desperately to be accepted and noticed in High School but for most of us, we were the outsiders. The coming of age comedy, SuperBad, tells the story of two best friends, Seth and Evan, who go off on an unexpected adventure before starting college.
This movie was released in 2007, but remains an incredibly relatable story about relationships, friendships, and high school struggles. What makes Superbad super good?
1. The Acting!
Jonah Hill and Michael Cera have amazing chemistry (not in the Romeo and Juliet kind of way) but the way they banter on screen sounds exactly like they are best friends in real life. The way they act comes across completely genuine, as if the whole film is unscripted. The same can be said for the entire all-star cast which includes Emma Stone, Bill Hader, Seth Rogan, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse. Every character reminds us of someone we actually went to high school with, this level of authenticity makes it effortless for audiences to connect with the story.

2. The Plot
(Spoilers ahead) The plot is simple: two high schoolers are struggling to get alcohol and they want to impress the girls they like. It's hilarious and again, completely relatable. No part of the movie feel dragged out or forced, it glides like a well-oiled machine. I enjoyed that they didn't try too hard to make it over the top, they keep the storyline simple, easy to understand, and filled with laughs. The script contains quote-worthy lines like, "I am McLovin."

3. It is a timeless treasure
If you just graduated high school or have been out of school for decades, you will still be able to find reasons to laugh and love this movie. This is a timeless classic that still makes me laugh (even though I've seen it 100 times by now and know everything that happens). While it is relatable it also is enhanced with shocking moments that make me laugh out loud and some of the best one-liners I've ever heard.
4. It's got a lot of heart
This is a comedy but it's also sort of a love story, the love between childhood best friends. These two best friends are having to grow up and go seperate ways and we experience that raw emotion with them. This movie will make you laugh and want to call your best friend.
5. The ending
The ending perfectly ties everything together, but also leaves room for us to imagine what happens next. Does Seth get the girl? Does Evan end up with Becca? Does Jules get new sheets? Are those cops still causing mischief?
Though this movie had a possible chance at a sequel, I admire that they have kept it a stand-alone film. I'll admit, I was hoping the cops would get a spin off-movie or maybe McLovin, but I think the writers and producers knew what they created was magic, cinamatic gold can rarely be re-created.
The movie ends with us seeing Evan going one way and Seth going the other, Seth has this look in his eyes of happiness mixed with uncertainty, which is basically what the year before college feels like.
Everyone has a 'desert island movie' something they can watch again and again. What's yours? Comment!
