Anything is possible with a little fairy dust.

The magical world of Cinderella graces the stage of Annisquam Village Players. Upon refusal by her step-family, a Fairy Godmother helps Cinderella, a young maiden, to attend the royal ball. Cinderella’s time at the ball is an enchanting evening of surprises.

I had the privilege to attend Annisquam Village Players’ final dress rehearsal of Cinderella. My cheeks hurt from smiling and I had a fun time. The show was nothing short of enchanting. This timeless tale, brought to life with songs, surprises, and heartfelt performances promises to captivate audiences of all ages.

Miranda Joyce shines in the role of Cinderella. Her portrayal of the kind-hearted maiden embodies the soul of Cinderella’s unwavering resilience. Joyce’s singing voice is praiseworthy, especially in her song, ‘In My Own Little Corner.’ Cinderella teaches everyone to keep following their dreams no matter how difficult the battles.

As Prince Topher, Nate Oaks gave the prince a memorable comedic touch. As Topher navigates the challenges of royalty, he fights to be himself, and to rule with compassion. Oaks’s interpretation adds more depth and a chance for audiences to relate.

Susan Beaumont, Lucy Camera-Murray, and Morgan Reilly are outstanding as Cinderella’s wicked stepfamily. They earned the most giggles with their over-the-top personalities and genius comedic timing.

The audience is left in awe at Crazy Marie’s dress transformation into the beautiful Fairy Godmother. Jennifer McCay’s captivating portrayal as the Fairy Godmother is a standout! I loved her goofy dance around the stage. Never judge a person based on appearance.

The ensemble cast is outstanding. As I have said and will continue to say, no small part exists in the theater. Each ensemble member brings their unique flair to the performance, contributing to the overall enchantment of the production. Young actors dressed as animals, cast members made funny jokes, and danced their hearts out in, ‘The Prince is Giving a Ball.’

Directors Terry Sands and Deborah Michel had a lot of fun with this musical to make it their own. The show occupies the magic we all need in our lives today. Sands and Michel focused on the show’s morals along with new additions.

The technical work deserves praise for its costume, artful set designs, and clever special effects. Conducted by music director, Marcia Groome, songs include ‘Impossible,’ ‘Stepsisters Lament,’ and ‘Now is the Time.’ I was singing the songs on my way home from the theater!

My favorite moment is the exquisite dress transformations. Gloria Melby’s magnificent costume designs are not only visually stunning but also cleverly facilitate quick transformations.

These seamless changes left the audience spellbound. Cinderella’s transformation from rags into a stunning ball gown is a highlight (out of many)! This moment is a testament to the production's dedication to creating theater magic. We can make the impossible possible.

However, Sands mentioned that the technical work added more complications to the rehearsal process. Originally, the production had a smoke machine which set off every alarm and the police had to come! “That’s why we have rehearsals,” Sands commented, glad they found this out in advance.

Having an audience at rehearsal makes a remarkable difference. I loved witnessing the reactions. The cast was very pleased to have an audience who applauded and reacted accordingly to the show’s magical moments. The cast used this gratifying response to enhance their performances for audience enjoyment.

Cinderella is playing at the Annisquam Village Players from August 6 - 11. You do not want to miss this entertaining and heartwarming show. Bring the whole family for an enchanting evening.
