Tuesday was the season finale of the latest Disney+ series, Star Wars: The Acolyte. When the show’s timeline was announced, fan theories began about what characters we would see throughout the series. One popular thought was we could see the live-action debut of Darth Plaguies, the master of Darth Sideous. While he didn’t play a huge role, fans finally got a look at the legendary Sith lord in a live-action setting.

Star Wars: The Acolyte Darth Plaguies Sighting

He is only on screen for a few seconds. Osha and Qimir are preparing to leave the mysterious planet to track down Mae and Master Sol. As they leave, the camera pans back into one of the rocky caves on the island. An alien hand is seen watching the pair, and the camera cuts to show the face of Darth Plaguies. While his name is never uttered and it is unconfirmed, it is a pretty safe bet this is Sith lord who trained Palpatine.

The show’s themes support the idea that Plaguies would be lurking in the wings. A member of the Muun alien race, his obsession is to become immortal. He wants to be able to create life. At the end of The Acolyte, we learn that Osha and Mae are not sisters but the same person. Their mother created life from the Force. No doubt, this makes Osha very intriguing to the man obsessed with creating life. It is one of the loose ends that could play a role in future series.

What’s Next For The Characters?

It remains unclear whether Star Wars: The Acolyte will get a season 2. Disney has not renewed the series amidst bad press from disgruntled fans. However, the beauty of this story is that the characters can continue their stories in other series or movies. It seems unlikely that Disney would tease such a huge character and not do anything with him. Fans would likely cheer for a series centered around the Sith lord and the early days of his training of Palpatine.

Plaguies isn’t the only loose end. Master Vernestra and her team of Jedi arrive on Brendok, and using the Force, she gets a glimpse of Qimir, who has removed his helmet. Her shock is real as she utters, “You’re alive?” At the end of the episode, Vernestra tells a memory-wiped Mae that she needs help finding an apprentice who turned evil. She then walks into a room to talk with none other than Master Yoda about the events that have transpired.

Because of the backlash of the series, Disney might decide to tie up the loose ends in another series or movie. They've done this with many other characters in the past decade and could easily do it again with Plagueis and the other characters.

Final Thoughts

While there are fair criticisms of The Acolyte, if it spawns a series about two fan-favorite Sith lords, it will be worth it. We will have to see what the showrunners say about the appearance of Plaguies and if there are any plans to do more with him in the future. Here’s to hoping this isn’t the last we have seen of him.
