Stage 284 Illuminates Enchantment and Heart to 'Beauty and the Beast'
The Stage 284 team breathes new life into this beloved tale

Be our guest at the enchanted castle.
Join Stage 284 for their captivating mainstage production of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. The story follows Belle, a young woman yearning for adventure, who becomes a prisoner to a cursed beast in a mysterious castle. As the enchanted residents hope to break the curse, Belle sees beyond the beast’s ferocious exterior, while the villagers march towards the castle.
Stage 284’s magical production of Beauty and the Beast is one of the best performances I have ever seen! Prepare to sing along to the tunes and smile until your face hurts. The Stage 284 team breathes new life into this beloved tale with its valuable message about second chances and kindness.
Every cast member brings radiant energy, charisma, and talent to the stage. This show is an incredible effort from everyone involved and it’s shown through their infectious smiles, hard work, and love of the original Disney tale.
Kalyn Kosh is truly marvelous as the generous bookwork, Belle. Kosh steps into the shoes of this iconic character and brings a fresh perspective. Aside from the character’s kind nature, Belle’s strength and fierce attitude are not to be ignored, which Kosh remarkably sells. Kosh is also a lovely singer, particularly in ‘Belle (Reprise)’ and ‘A Change in Me.’
You may have seen Aaron Swiniuch offstage as a magnificent choreographer, but here, he plays an astonishing performance of the beast. In preparation, Swiniuch thought long and hard about his portrayal of a complex character. Swiniuch channels the beast’s emotional evolution and a powerful singing voice in, ‘If I Can't Love Her.’
Cole Lundquist is superb as Gaston, the story’s antagonist. He embraced the character’s arrogance with comedic gusto, easily hamming up his performance. Gaston and Lafou (shared by Issac Starr Collins and Josh Sauris) make a sensational duo.
The ensemble as a whole brings several characters from the story to life. Colby Taormina shines as Lumiere, especially in ‘Be Our Guest.’ Susan Austin (Mrs. Potts) sings a lovely rendition of ‘Beauty and the Beast.’ As I continue to say, no part is ever small in the theater. The cast is commendable in bit parts, hilarious expressions, and comedy.
Beauty and the Beast has always had a special place in director Hannah Vincent’s heart. “I wanted this production to be a true representation of everything we hold dear at Stage 284,” Vincent commented about the process. Her dedicated direction is evident in every scene, creating a version that introduces fresh ideas.
Stage 284’s Beauty and the Beast has an exceptional backstage team for this visually captivating show. Craig Robertson and Katie Clarke-Robertson designed the beautiful castle set, along with David Prescott who painted stunning hand-drawn rose designs. Take the time to marvel over this exquisite set.
Kristin Crockett and Cecilia Crockett elevate the show with outstanding costume work, giving iconic characters stunning and imaginative designs.
There’s no way you’ll sit through this show without singing along (I certainly was). Beauty and the Beast has several well-known songs. Conducted by music director, David Flowers, and a live orchestra, songs include ‘Belle,’ ‘Human Again,’ and the lively number, ‘Gaston.’ Choreographer Marrin Innis excels at fast-paced dance numbers.
Everyone involved can agree on one thing and that’s the moral of the show. Anyone can change and always be kind. Stage 284 is eager to share the magic of this beloved tale with audiences, especially for those who are witnessing their first show. Take the whole family and be Stage 284’s guest for a magical performance (or more) of Beauty and the Beast October 18 - October 27.
