Soaps in Depth has shut down: The writer have joined Soap Opera Digest
Sites that focus on soap opera news are dweindling.

Soaps in Depth is no more
If you have been having trouble finding articles for your favorite online news source, it's because the website Soaps in Depth is no more. My mother, grandmother, and myself, looked forward to Soap Opera Digest and SID magazines coming in the mail. We learned so much about our favorite daytime drama shows.
In April 23, 2020, the official announcement was made that Soaps In Depth would cease all print editions for both its ABC and CBS titles, which had each been published biweekly since 1997.
Launched by Bauer Media Group, Soaps In Depth was one of the only soap magazines to publish separate issues for ABC, CBS, and NBC daytime soaps. The NBC edition had earlier been discontinued in December 1999 due to the network’s cancellation of two of its three daytime soaps.
What Made Soaps In Depth Unique?
SID offered a fan-focused, enthusiastic tone, compared to the more tabloid-style or industry-focused coverage of other outlets. Each issue included weekly spoilers and previews, behind-the-scenes interviews, photo spreads and In-depth character/actor profiles.
Its closure in print mirrored a wider decline in specialized soap opera magazines, as daytime serials dwindled and audiences shifted online. Soaps In Depth persisted digitally for several years under A360media.
Gone but not forgotten
On May 29, 2025, the brand was officially merged into Soap Opera Digest, marking the end of Soaps In Depth as a standalone digital outlet. I enjoyed the articles and learned a lot of sopa opera news from the site.
The website now redirects to Soap Opera Digest, completing the full brand absorption. Sadly, there has been an influx of fake news on Social media, and SID was one of the reputable sources you could go to and know the information was accurate.
Soaps In Depth distinguished itself with network-specific coverage, dedicating separate titles to ABC, CBS, and earlier NBC soaps to deliver deeper, more targeted content than broader publications like Soap Opera Digest.
The show must go on
I had noticed for the past year that the magazine was no longer giving fans breaking news as it once did. Many recent articles were about what celebrities did on holidays and had nothing to do with current soap opera storylines.
Soaps In Depth continued online for five more years before merging into Soap Opera Digest in May 2025, and ceasing to operate independently. Now when you type the name in the search engine it's SOD that comes up.
SID also covered casting news in detail, often with exclusive insights — especially first-look previews and contract negotiations long before they were public. With the influx of news and clickbait items increasing, it was refreshing to know I could go to Soaps in Depth and find the truth.
The SID staff still have jobs
Writers Chris Eades, and Michelle Parkington will now work for Soap Opera Digest, which means they did not lose their jobs. Richard M. Simms, long-time editor, became a recognizable figure to fans, especially after joining Soap Opera Digest post-merge. Kelli M. Larson and Charlie Mason also contributed interviews, reviews, and retrospectives that were popular among long-time readers.
It's the end of an era and goodbyes are always bittersweet, but those of us who appreciated Soaps in Depth will go on. Soap Opera Digest operates differently, so it may take some getting used to. One thing soap fans know is that change is inevitable in this business.
Continue watching for reliable sources to bring updates about your favorite past and present daytime drama shows. Be on the lookout for spoilers for The Bold and the Beautiful, General Hospital, The Young and the Restless, Beyond The Gates, and Days of Our Lives. Remember to search for Soap Opera Digest rather than Soaps In Depth.
