Smile 2 Trailer: The sequel to the $217 million horror film in which Naomi Scott battles for her life

The first Smile 2 trailer has been made public, showing Naomi Scott battling for her life in the follow-up to the $217 million horror film. A supernatural monster's curse leads people to gradually lose their sanity in the universe of the nascent Smile franchise. Eventually, they kill themselves in front of someone while grinning in order to spread the virus-like organism. In the original Smile, Joel (Kyle Gallner) was cursed with the Smile monster after Rose Cotter (Sosie Bacon) set herself on fire in front of him.

A new Smile 2 trailer has been published by Paramount, showing Scott's pop singer Skye Riley battling for her life after becoming afflicted with the curse. The teaser shows her gradually going insane as more happy faces and unsettling things happen after she witnessed her friend (Lukas Gage) commit suicide in front of her. In an attempt to assist her, a curse researcher cryptically states that she must pass away for the curse to be lifted.

Following his disclosure, additional eerie scenes of happy fans are shown before Skye, dressed in a hospital gown, is shown getting ready to inject herself. But there will also be plenty of high-octane sequences, such as a vehicle wreck in the middle of the night and a group of happy fans chasing her down a hallway. As the teaser concludes, her deceased companion is seen smiling and extending her lips. View the complete Smile 2 trailer below:

What The Newest Smile 2 Trailer Reveals About The Movie

Skye witnesses someone's death and is haunted by the smiling creature as it torments her in various ways in the trailer for Smile 2, which is scheduled for release in October. The inclusion of a Smile curse researcher in this new film suggests a deeper investigation of the monster's origins, even if the original film treated the curse as a symbol for trauma. Given that Kyle Gallner will be playing Joel again in the upcoming sequel, this could even be related to what happened to him in the first film.

Additionally, the trailer shows Gage's character stalking Skye at different stages, suggesting that he will be in the film for a long time as she spirals due to the curse. This might be what brings her to the dubious, hospital-like setting where the researcher takes her, possibly in an effort to break the curse by temporarily rendering her medically dead. However, it's unknown if this will help or not; it might instead highlight the fact that such dangerous methods are ineffective in halting the curse.

The Latest Trailer for Our Take on Smile 2

Despite retaining the same trauma-related themes as the original film, Smile 2 seems like a more deserving sequel because of its hint at adding to the universe's lore. This gives it a distinct spin on the renowned first film and makes it one of our most anticipated horror films of 2024. We're looking forward to surprising turns as Skye attempts to permanently break the curse because there are still a lot of ways the plot may develop.

Smile 2 Director Teases Plans For More Sequels After Initial Surprise Hit

After Smile 2's unexpected success, filmmaker Parker Finn hinted at plans for additional sequels in the expanding horror franchise. Smile, the first movie in the series, made $217.4 million worldwide on a $17 million budget, making it an unexpected box office success. This, together with a favorable review, led to the production of Smile 2, which opens in theaters on October 18. The narrative centers on pop diva Skye Riley (played by Naomi Scott), who is set to go on a world tour when she falls prey to the Smile curse.

After Smile 2, the horror franchise might go in a lot of different directions, according to Finn, suggesting that this might not be the last movie in the series. The writer and director clarified that compelling themes and characters will dictate the course of a sequel, expressing his hope that audiences will appreciate the sequel's trajectory and the future it establishes. Below is what Finn had to say:

The Significance Of Parker Finn's Remarks For Additional Smile Films

There are many characters in Smile 2, which gives the franchise more complexity and might shed new insight on the curse of the movie series. In addition to Scott, important characters include Lukas Gage as Lewis Fregoli, who commits suicide in front of Skye, handing her the curse, and Kyle Gallner's return as Joel, who was cursed by the Smile Entity at the conclusion of Smile. Morris, portrayed by Peter Jacobson, is a character who would ostensibly assist the main character in attempting to break the curse before it kills her and is passed on.

Depending on their level of involvement in the main plot, these three supporting characters in particular may be the key to growing the series. Considering the favorable first reactions to Smile 2, which praised the movie as superior to the original, this might be the start of Finn's franchise gaining more backstory and investigation. As the story follows fresh and intriguing characters and plotlines, a sequel that can replicate the first film's box office success might demonstrate the horror franchise's enduring appeal and support the creation of additional films.
