Sean Blakemore returns to 'General Hospital'
Fans have been saying that Shawn Butler needs closure and now he might just get it.

On General Hospital, Shawn Butler has been languishing away in Pentonville prison for a crime he did not commit. He was arrested and convicted of the attempted murder of Hayden Barnes when Nikolas Cassadine is the real culprit. It looked to viewers as if he was locked up and they threw the key away on the character. His former boss Sonny is presumed to be dead and Carly could use her good friend right now. Fans of the character have been saying for the past 6 years that Shawn needs justice because he was innocent.
At one point there was a "Free Shawn" campaign but it went nowhere and life moved on. Sean Blakemore who portrayed Butler has been a very busy man in prime time during the past 6 years. He starred in several BET made for television movies and was in the cast of the series The Game as well as in the final season of OWN's popular series Greenleaf. Now according to Soap Hub Sonny's trusted henchman will show up the week of April 5. it's not clear if he will still be in Pentonville or actually make an appearance in Port Charles.
According to Soap Opera Network, he is returning as a contract player which indicates he will be around for quite some time. Viewers will be glad to see Shawn and are wondering if he will be cleared of all charges. If he is then this would cause problems with Prince Nikolas and Ava. General Hospital might simply have Shawn remain in jail or be released without the truth ever coming to light which would no doubt anger the fans.
What GH fans are not happy about is the fact that Lulu, Dev, Dustin, and Julian were all recently written out of the ABC daytime drama. Fans will probably never understand the mindsets of the powers that be in regard to who comes, goes, stays or returns to Port Charles. Blakemore portrayed Shawn from 2011 to 2015 and reprised the role briefly in 2016. He dated Jordan Ashford who had been his best friend's wife. He is also the biological father of her son TJ.
In 2016, the actor won a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his role on General Hospital in 2016. Viewers have over the past 5 years been saying that even if Blakemore did not return to the role, the character needed to be exonerated. Neither Soap Opera News nor Soap Hub gave any details but there are several scenarios that might play out. TJ or someone else might visit Shawn in prison or he most likely will have an encounter with Jason or his former lover Alexis who both have just been sentenced to time in Pentonville. Butler could get released on good behavior or perhaps his time is simply up.

Fans of Sean Blakemore have been wondering if he might return to General Hospital now that Greenleaf has ended and now they know. If Butler is indeed released from prison he might possibly assist in running Sonny's "business."

It has never been made clear just what type of mob dealings Mr. Corinthos has but somebody is needed at this point and time to run things with Sonnypresumed dead but actually dealing with amnesia. Jason going to Pentonville cuts him out of the action and Carly has been threatened by both Peter August and Cyrus Renault. Some General Hospital viewers thought perhaps Stephen Smith would return has Brick and help Jason out but Sean Butler might be a better fit for this situation.
There will also be the issues of Jordan, who married Curtis but is now separated from him. Real Andres who portrays Taggert recently asked fans if they thought his character and the police commissioner should get together but now it seems he may have competition. Jordan will be dealing with emotions related to 3 men in her life, her estranged husband, hr baby daddy, and her former partner. Be sure to stay tuned to General Hospital to find out how all of this is resolved.
