Although sworn to secrecy by the MCU, Sadie Sink admits there’s sometimes some truth to the online fan theories.

The actress, who will star in Spider Man Brand New Day in an undisclosed role, admitted “it’s torture” not being able to tell people which character she’s playing in the fourth installment of the Marvel Studios franchise.

“There’s so much speculation too, I feel like there’s a new character every week,” she said The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

“I tell people, like the people I know,” added Sink. “But I found out through online theories. There was speculation online that said, ‘Sadie Sink is going to be in the new Spider Man.’ I was like, ‘Hmm? I am?’ And sure enough, two days later, they asked me to do it. So yeah, those theories, there’s sometimes some truth to it.”

Although many have speculated that Sink will play fellow redhead Mary Jane Watson, the Stranger Things alum previously played coy about the theory. “A lot of people forget that hair color can change, but yeah, I understand all of the theories,” she told Entertainment Weekly.

Deadline reported in March that Sink was set to star in the upcoming Spidey pic. Additionally, Liza Colón Zayas joins the cast in an undisclosed role.

After filming began in Glasgow, Scotland in August, Spider Man Brand New Day director Destin Daniel Cretton announced last month that filming wrapped, ahead of the scheduled July 31 premiere date.

Sadie Sink’s comments highlight just how closely fans now track every casting rumor in the Marvel universe. With each new project, social media fills with theories, leaked set photos, and guesses about which classic characters might be introduced next. For actors, this attention can be exciting, but it also adds pressure, especially when contracts demand strict secrecy. Sink’s experience shows that sometimes the audience is already one step ahead.

The idea that online speculation predicted her casting before she even received the offer adds another layer to the modern entertainment cycle. Fan communities no longer just react to announcements. They analyze, predict, and sometimes influence the conversation around major franchises. While Sink clearly finds the secrecy difficult, she also acknowledges that the fans’ curiosity is part of what keeps the Spider Man series so popular.

Marvel Studios is well known for keeping character details under tight control, often using code names and fake scripts to prevent leaks. For a performer coming from a hit series like Stranger Things, stepping into such a guarded environment can feel both thrilling and frustrating. Sink’s lighthearted tone suggests she understands why the secrecy exists, even if it makes everyday conversations a challenge.

Speculation about Mary Jane Watson has only intensified interest in her role. The character is one of the most recognizable figures in Spider Man lore, and fans are eager to see how the franchise might reinterpret her for a new era. At the same time, Sink’s careful responses show how actors must navigate interviews without confirming or denying theories. Every word becomes part of a larger discussion online.

The addition of Liza Colón Zayas also signals that Brand New Day may expand the emotional and narrative depth of the story. With filming already complete and a summer release date approaching, expectations are rising fast. For longtime fans, the mystery surrounding the cast is part of the fun. For newcomers, it builds anticipation before a single trailer even drops.

As the premiere draws closer, more details will inevitably surface. Until then, Sink’s playful honesty about fan theories offers a rare glimpse into how modern blockbusters are shaped not only by studios and directors, but also by the passionate communities that follow every development. Whether the rumors prove true or not, the conversation itself keeps Spider Man at the center of pop culture.
