S'More Candyland Deck

A discussion about a yugioh custom deck inspired by a friends interest

By The Kind QuillPublished about a year ago 11 min read

Hello fellow reader and welcome to a series that has taken too long to create. In this series I will showcase a trading card game custom deck from the YuGiOh! series. Now the theme for this deck has been inspired by a friend of mine who has a great connection with s'mores and the board game "Candyland".

He's known for creating YuGiOh! content on the internet. Known as YuGiOh Everything, his content described as knowledge of everything of the series. While mainly focused on the anime it branches onto other forms of the franchise like their card games to their video games as well.

Disclaimer: some of the card art are not my own. They belong to the creators they belong to and most were created by using various ai software. Though some images were repeated through various platforms, it’s difficult to identify who to credit, so its safe to say some are not mine.

Now when I began making this deck I had a bit of a head start. The layout was very small but still there. The idea came from a response to a question of deciding your theme deck that has not been created yet. S'more and Candyland was the ideal response.

A deck headliner is what I had made it since it was a must to pioneer this decks creation. S'Mores Man. This card would protect the lower level monsters while still having the ability to still deal damage to a player. The premise for this card and the rest of the "S'More" archetype, would be to burn your opponent while tributing your lower level monsters for bigger ones and providing protection for them.

The stats for this card was heavily suggested and so it has been made to be the front runner of the deck. I went with the Fire attribute and Pyro typing because the idea of a s'more naturally being hot from melting over a fire and burning anyone who eats it too quickly connects more and provides the esthetic of inflicting damage to both players as well as potentially proving the player satisfaction as if to have eaten a s'more.

While S'Mores Man was the front runner, some cards had a stronger monster in their arsenal than needed to provide some sense of a late game strategy. The Perfect S'More did just that. This card would not only have their specific summoning condition which is similar to most of the level 5 and above "S'More" monsters but has the highest attack as well. This card slows down the game if the duel gets a bit too crazy and provides the user the ability to gain control of the game when it's been too many turns to do so. This card also provides recovery so you are able to start making moves to get the upper hand and win the duel. Notice the defense "DEF" is 500. A lot of these cards will have the same number in order to reference one of the main engines of the deck, "S'More Kid Token".

The effect this card has to restrict each player from using 1 card type per turn allows both players to really think about their next play while conserving resources or even from running out of remaining resources that can end the game for themselves.

While most of these cards will be high attack or very versatile in their effects and ultimate strategy, this card is made to slow everyone down. S'More Chow is used to be a wall for the deck. A monster where you can have on the field and prevent players from using more resources while you continue your onslaught of inflicting damage to your opponent without attacking or being severely interrupted by your opponent.

Though you are also locked from your extra deck, Chow provides a subtle node to another card known as "Big Shield Gardna" whom also has 2600 defense. Similar to other cards, the 500 stat is included and the level of this card like other cards are each incremental to have variety and inclusiveness.

Now who doesn't want a hot cocoa? S'More Hot Cocoa is made to provide a boost for you as well as your monsters. From gaining life points to boosting your monsters attack, this card is a great hand trap for your S'More and Candyland monsters. The idea for this card comes from drinking actual cocoa. The nourishment from drinking something hot in a cold day as well as pairing a cocoa with your s'more to create a comforting meal.

Something to note also, is that all of the level 5 and higher S'More monsters has the ability to Special Summon themselves from different points of the field simply by tributing monsters of their kind. Thus, the smaller ones will provide great support to the bigger monsters as we will soon see.

Mini S'More is one of our lower level monsters that can either start the interruption for your opponent be the catalyst for your higher monsters. Every lower level S'more monster will have the same effect where if it's used to summon a higher level monster, that new monster will be unaffected by your opponents effects. This is kinda of a realistic way of preventing others from taking the s'more that you have created and to enjoy it yourself.

With this card, you also lose life points while your opponent loses life point as well. This gives a sharing a s'more dynamic to where both players are effected. Though similar to the Trickster archetype, if your opponent decides to play too many cards a turn, they do get penalized.

Baby S'More is a mixture between marsh macaroon and giant germ. this card allows you to summon up to 2 more of itself while also inflicting damage onto the opponent. the goal here is to make sure you have at least one or two monsters so you can summon your bigger monsters with the protection needed to take on your opponent.

Adventure S'more is a card that allows you to start your plays in the beginning of the duel. By adding any of the card's from the archetype, you can start to implement your strategy in order to have an early lead. This card also gives you a boost later on in the game so it can help you in a pinch.

The goal with this deck is to burn your opponent with the s'more monsters while controlling the speed of the board to get the upper hand. the spell and trap cards are to enhance the speed in which your get your strategies out and maximize on your plays.

Don't you want S'More is the spell card that will help you layout the foundation for your cards to start gaining heat. By summoning tokens, you can already start to burn your opponent while at the same time, give yourself resources to summon your bigger monsters and really deal damage. This card also has recovery value by allowing you to add it from the graveyard to your hand once per turn.

This will further enhance the summoning capabilities of this deck and work around cards that may disrupt you the first time around. This card provide you with two S'More Kid Tokens so you have opportunities to summon the bigger monsters as well gives chances to synchro summon from your extra deck as well.

S'More Ingredients is very similar to cards like "Sky Striker Mobilize - Engage" which allows you to add any card of the archetype to your hand. So whether you are starting your first turn or continuing the duel, this card will allow you to gain access to more cards.

This card also allows you to draw and gain life points which is essential because this deck doesn't have many draw power but it does contain recursion. That being said, the Candyland cards will help with interruptions and retaliations from the opponent.

In case you are locked from spell cards, Once S'More is a card that blends infinite impermanence and summoning a trap monster together. This summons one token after negating your opponents monster effect. The focus is mainly on the cards working with themselves and their unique connection to s'mores.

There's some addition to the basics of the game which is to disrupt your opponent or slow them down in order for you to apply your effects and activate your cards without a response.

S'More Double Stuffed is our last trap card that allows you to double the offensive and defensive stats of your monsters. Like having extra marshmallows in your s'mores, this card is your defense against high attacking monsters as well as providing defense against your opponent by negating card effects while it's in the graveyard.

Think of the trap card "Magician's Navigation" which allows you to banish itself from the graveyard in order to negate an opponent's activated spell or trap card. This card is to be used when the battle gets intense and you want to make sure you are able to damage your opponent through battle, especially when most of them have low attack.

With all of the S'mores that you can handle, comes the Candyland portion of the deck. These cards are predominately extra deck cards that disrupt your opponents plays while providing hovering effects for your cards and providing the amount of strength to defeat your opponent when your higher monsters are struggling to inflict burn damage.

We start with the illustrious Candyland card. This card summons candyland monsters from the hand or graveyard. This card gives you the main queen of its kind so you already have access to it. There's an inclusion of ignoring summoning requirements due to monsters that will mostly be summoned are the monsters that will be sent from the extra deck to the graveyard.

In the modern rules of yugioh, monsters that are sent from the extra deck to the graveyard, will not be able to be summoned from the graveyard since it was not officially summoned in their respective way. This card will also provide protection for the candyland monsters since they will not have any protection like the s'more monster do.

Unlimited Sweets is the trap alternate to candyland. This card acts as a call of the haunted while also providing temporary protection for all candyland monsters . Without modern staples like "Monster Reborn", this custom theme deck will need access to the graveyard and the monsters that inhabit it. Even though some monsters are able to summon themselves while in the graveyard, our monsters who live in the extra deck will need this added boost to be revived.

Candyland Queen Frostine is the main monster of the candyland series. She not only destroys cards upon summon but she negates your opponents attempt to stop you by simply sending candyland monsters to the graveyard. the goal is to summon this card when your S'more plays seems to fall short.

You can also end your first turn board with her in the driver seat. Allowing her to start sending monsters and not only negating your opponents card effects, but triggering your card effects for each extra deck candyland monster has a unique effect once sent do to this cards effect on top of their own abilities.

Let's start off our extra monsters with a foundation effect that applies to all candyland monsters. The first is when being sent by Frostines effect, to have a unique effect, the second is for when they are summoned initially from the extra deck versus by other card effects.

S'More Candyland Samoa is named after a drink from a friend who enjoys them a lot. This card gives you life points for each of your comrades when summoned and it also grants you the chance to take one of your opponents monsters to use as if your own. This goes great with the Queens effect because if her effect is negated, the cost of sending this card to the grave still grants you access to retaliate.

Now candy corn is a very controversial topic. Some don't like it and some do. In this case, we do and now Candyland Corny Corn is a monster inspired by it. Similar to the card "Called by the grave" this card allows you to banish a card from your opponents graveyard each chance that it gets. Depending on how it's used, you can also negate their effect as well which helps when it comes to intense battles.

Lord Licorice of Candyland is known as the villain of the candyland series. An Antihero if you will who detours you down the path of chaos. For Licorice is a character from the candyland board game and is inspired by Willy Wonka and Tim Burton. He forces monsters to stoop to his level while also using sneaky tactics to use your opponent's resources to your advantage.

After our encounters with the synchro realm, we have link monsters, cards that are summoned from the extra deck simply by sending the specified monsters to the graveyard. All of these candyland monsters are to be summoned by sending any candyland or s'more monster together or separately to summon these sweet treats, Candyland Gingerbread Man is a card that grants you the power of Special Summoning any candyland monster from the graveyard and ignoring their summoning conditions which help when Frostine has sent them there.

From fan favorite to candyland classics, Candyland Jolly is a character from the candyland series remerged into a card. Like other cards as you will soon see, this card has the overall ability to give you draw power. By simply summoning it or sending it to the graveyard due to miss frosting effect you draw 1 card. where the s'more would lack in draw power, jolly will help. This card also has the effect to prevent monsters you control from being destroyed by battle the turn it's summoned which helps when all seems lost.

Candyland Mr. Mint here is another character from the franchise that allows you to discard cards from your opponents hand. By discarding cards from your opponent's hand, you provide some hand control to change the game. Notice all of these cards attack points. Each of our candyland monsters has attacks ranging from 1100-500.

With these effects that pose potential threats, their stats had to suffer to compensate. That being said, each of our monsters is of water attribute and rock typing to reference the hard and soft candies that we all have eaten at some point in life or will soon experience.

Our lovely Grandma Nutt of Candyland adds to our candyland family by gaining inspiration from the yugioh card "Firewall Dragon". By having the ability to return any card from the field or graveyard once per turn, or when it's summoned, gives you the chance to save some cards that may have been sent away or used as tribute for your strategies. This card is a link 3 instead of a link 2 to provide main coverage for other link monsters.

From our lovely S'More to the candies of our land we have finally approached the King of them all. Candyland King Kandy is our link 4 monster that not only summons itself once sent to the graveyard by the queen, by grants every candyland monster 2000 attack. While he doesn't give much protection, he provides such power for you to hit hard and to show the rest of the candyland kingdom who's the king.

Have him along with the queen on the field and you have a recipe for a great game while enjoying some S'Mores. This deck has a lot to offer and its play value is modern enough to create strategies and possibly get you hungry as well. I plan to make more of these. Thank you for reading and look forward to more.
