The official synopsis introduces Melissa (Ilonzeh), a woman who leaves her fiancé Andre (Houston) at the altar. Hoping to take her mind off the situation, her friends persuade her to join them for a “girls’ trip” to a secluded cabin in the woods. But the retreat takes a horrific turn when Jenny, one of the friends, is found mutilated deep in the forest. As shock and panic set in, breaking news reports a nationwide alien attack sweeping across the United States. The women must navigate both a mysterious human danger and the chaos of an extraterrestrial invasion to make it out alive.

The film’s tagline—“IF YOU SEE THEM, RUN”—sets the tone for what audiences can expect: high tension, unpredictable twists, and a race against the clock in a collapsing world.

In addition to Ilonzeh and Houston, the cast features notable names including Ken Lawson, Claudia Jordan, and Obba Babatundé. With its ensemble of familiar faces, RUN looks to blend star power with an accessible, action-driven premise.

Chris Stokes, a director whose background is firmly rooted in drama and suspense-oriented narratives, is no stranger to challenging audiences with unexpected twists and turns. However, with RUN, he has been working closely alongside Footage Films to help make great strides in getting moviegoers back into the theater, primarily among urban audiences. Discussing the project earlier, Stokes framed it as one piece of a grander endeavor: to win back an audience that has helped drive streaming numbers on services like Tubi but has yet to come out in support at the theaters.

The script, co-written by Stokes and Houston, mixes elements of survival horror with sci-fi spectacle. While alien invasion stories are a familiar staple in the genre, RUN’s combination of interpersonal conflict, isolated setting, and dual threats promises a fresh take. The cabin-in-the-woods framework sets up a tense, claustrophobic atmosphere, while the parallel narrative of a global crisis adds urgency and scale.

The first trailer offers a glimpse of the chaos to come—moments of quiet unease shattered by sudden violence, eerie glimpses of an otherworldly threat, and desperate choices made under pressure. From its ominous forest visuals to the flashes of large-scale destruction, the preview suggests a balance between intimate survival storytelling and wider sci-fi action.

Audiences can now to get a sense of the film’s tone and pacing. The video teases both the personal stakes and the larger dangers looming just beyond the trees.

Footage Films, founded by Stokes, has built a strong following with its slate of urban-focused dramas and thrillers, particularly in the streaming market. RUN represents a shift back toward theatrical releases, with a story designed to appeal to both genre fans and viewers looking for character-driven tension.

As its release date approaches, the team behind RUN is encouraging moviegoers to stay updated through the website, where new images, behind-the-scenes content, and announcements will be posted in the lead-up to August 29.

With its blend of friendship drama, horror elements, and sci-fi spectacle, RUN is positioned to offer something for multiple audiences. Whether drawn by the mystery of the mutilated body in the woods, the chaos of an alien assault, or the resilience of characters under pressure, viewers can expect a story that unfolds at the intersection of the personal and the apocalyptic.
