Robert Pattinson and Colin Farrell Take on Classic Roles With a Dark Twist in the new Batman Film
The Batman is set to premiere in March 2022. The movie also features Zoe Kravitz, John Turturro, Paul Dano, Andy Serkis, and Jeffrey Wright.

Batman fans everywhere received good news recently. Matt Reeves, Warner Brothers' The Batman movie director, tweeted a message on his Twitter account letting fans know that filming has been wrapped up. "Holy Batman movie news," Robin would say.
The news from Reeves was very reassuring, considering the number of delays that occurred during the filming process. Now that the film enters the production stage, The Batman will exceed its original release date of October 2021. The Batman is now slated to premiere in US cinemas in early March 2022.
What are the reasons for these numerous delays?
The Batman's production started early January 2020 but came to a screeching halt in March due to the unfortunate global Covid-19 pandemic. Next, the actor cast to play the iconic Batman role, Robert Pattinson, reportedly tested positive for Covid-19, adding to the delays. However, despite strict lockdowns in the U.K., Reeve's and the Warner Brothers crew were allowed to start filming again.
So, who is Robert Pattinson?
Remember those Twilight movies? Robert Pattinson played Edward, a sparkling vampire that stole the hearts of most teenage girls. Or, maybe you remember Pattinson from the widely popular wizard movie, Harry Potter? In Harry Potter: The Goblet of Fire, Pattinson played a stunning and promising wizard from house Hufflepuff named Cedrick Diggory.
Other notable movies of Robert Pattinson include Water for Elephants, Remember Me, and Tenet. Given Pattinson's long list of movie roles and his involvement in many independent films, it is safe to say that Pattinson has become a well-seasoned actor ready to take on Bruce Wayne's persona.
When Esquire asked about landing the role of Batman, Robert Pattinson responded by saying,
"It's kind of insane. I was so far away from ever thinking it was a realistic prospect. I literally do not understand how I've got it, at all."
Pattinson also described to Access about putting on the Batsuit for the first time.
"I remember saying to Matt, 'It does feel quite transformative!' He was like, I hope it does! You're literally in the Batsuit.' You do feel very powerful immediately."
Imagine being able to have that honor. That is a nerd dream come true.
What makes this Batman different?
Matt Reeves has also let the public know that this Batman will be different from Batman movies we have grown up loving. The Batman movie will focus more on Bruce Wayne's underrated talents of being a detective. Detective work in past Batman movies was primarily Wayne's butler, Alfred Pennyworth's, role.
This film will also portray some favorite villains in a way that fans have never seen before. The Gotham villains will have darker portrayals and be connected through a single mystery that Batman must solve.
The hotlist of Batman villains in Reeve's film includes The Riddler, Catwoman, Carmine Falcone, and Oswald Cobblepot, best known as The Penguin. The Penguin, played by the talented Colin Farrell, will not be the lovable Penguin once played by Danny DeVito.

Farrell's version of The Penguin will be more of an origin story, one that happens before he reaches Gotham mob boss status. Paul Dano's (Little Miss Sunshine), The Riddler, will take on a more sinister role and a less cheesy persona in the upcoming The Batman film. This will definitely be something utterly different than Jim Carrey's fun and bubbly version of The Riddler.
It is still unclear how Zoe Kravitz's (Divergent) Catwoman and John Turturro's (O Brother, Where Art Thou?) Carmine Falcone will fit into the upcoming film.
How will The Batman hold up to its predecessors? After reviewing set pictures, doing a bit of research, and watching the official movie trailer repeatedly, I believe The Batman will open up the DC world as we have never seen before. Watch the trailer below and let us know what you think!
