Paris should have got into Harvard
and "my dean" still makes me cringe

My first watch of Gilmore Girls I was just enamored with Lorelai and Rory. I loved everything about them and thought they couldn't do anything wrong. I also was originally Team Logan during this first time I watched the show; however after the revival came out I was very upset with how they wrote Logan and decided to move on to Jess, who is simply wonderful and misunderstood. Regardless, I have started my autumn rewatch of Gilmore Girls, and have had many thoughts on the series since. I have to start out saying that at times, Lorelai really grinds my gears. Like when she gets mad at Luke when Jess and Rory get into a crash. While the mother in me completely understands; I can't understand how Lorelai keeps treating Luke like a second thought in their friendship. She almost NEVER considers how he feels in any situation. To Luke's credit, he doesn't seem to entertain her in this fight and instead is intent on finding Jess, which just hurts my heart. Not to mention when he finds Jess he is so compassionate to him, and Jess painfully says, "I made sure she was okay," and BREAKS MY HEART. For those who want to hate on Jess, we have to remember he was a misguided teenager with a absent father and mother who was very out there. He was a product of what he was given and he ended up turning it all around.
Paris was one of my least favorite characters on the first watch, however when I watch it again I am OBSESSED. I think she is so funny. She is unapologetically herself and I love that in a character. She was driven and extra in everything; something I think reminds me of Hermione from Harry Potter, who is someone I also liked as a character. Clearly, I like the characters that are smart and while Rory was obviously quite bright, Paris was just a bit brighter. Unfortunately, she was robbed of Valedictorian; and the show robbed her of her acceptance to Harvard. She deserved Harvard. After she had to endure bullying because of her parents, absent parents and rotating nannies; she deserved so much better. Which fun fact, Paris speaks Spanish and Portuguese in the show to her nannies which is so cool. Take it from me, Portuguese is hard to learn. While, of course, we love Rory and her story of being from a single parent is very uplifting; Paris is just as deserving.
On another note for things that should have happened; Dean shouldn't have gotten married to Lindsey. That was a weird left turn for him to make, and of course, we can all agree Rory sleeping with Dean when he was married was wild. Dean had sent those signals of cosplaying a good guy, especially in his scenes where his true colors came out whenever Jess was around; but the whole cheating on his wife seemed very out of character to me. We can all cringe together as we hear the words "my Dean" echo in our souls as our dear Rory becomes the homewrecker that wears the scarlet A around Stars Hollow. While this scene is crazy and seems out of character, I can appreciate that we see that Rory can make bad decisions. She is such a real character and even though I was disappointed in her, she felt very real. This decision was repeated later when she became the other woman to Logan in the revival, which made me sad to see she didn't learn her lesson. Regardless, as I have said, I love to see that a character isn't overbearingly perfect.
