"Do you remember the tower? The snow?"
Twenty-four hours ago, Christopher Becker was living a perfectly normal life. Today, plucked from his home, his old life in ruins, he'll learn the incontrovertible truth about the world and his place in it.
And then he'll remember the tower.
Okay we’re on issue two and I’m more intrigued than ever about this series and where it's going. I mean after the first issue there is a lot to live up to, that ending alone was utterly spectacular. This issue takes things in a different direction but it is still packed with that wow factor punch that we expect to see. Kyle does a great job keeping the tensions high and intrigue flowing like the rapids in a river, clam then bam it’s up and down and hold on for the ride. This really does have that kind of great feel to it as you’re reading it. I like that we get to see that Christopher isn’t as trusting with these folks or really anyone at the moment and still needs to process exactly what happened at dinner. It is really well written and portrayed.
I’m very much enjoying the way that this is being told. The story & plot development that we see through how the sequence of events unfold as well as how the reader learns information is presented exceptionally well. The character development is phenomenal to see thanks to the dialogue, the narration, the character interaction as well as how they act and react to the situations and circumstances which they encounter. This fleshes them out so that we feel like we know them or have someone like them in our lives. The pacing is superb and as it takes us through pages revealing more of the story the more intrigued we become.
I am really enjoying the way that this is being structured and how the layers within the story continue to grow, evolve and strengthen. I love how the layers here contain so many different parts that make up the greater whole. The way they add all this depth, dimension and complexity to the story is utterly marvellous. How we see everything working together to create the story’s ebb & flow as well as how it moves the story forward is impeccably achieved.
I’m loving the interior artwork here! The page layouts and how we see the imagery as it creates the structure of those layouts is fantastic. The linework is sensational and how we see the varying weights and techniques that are utilised to create this kind of attention to detail is really rather extraordinary. The way we see backgrounds utilised here is superb as they enhance and expand the moments beautifully. They also work within the composition of the panels to bring out the depth perception, sense of scale and the overall sense of size and scope to the story. The colour work is brilliantly rendered. The various hues and tones within the colours being utilised to create the shading, highlights and shadow work shows a really understanding of how colour works and how to maximise its effects.
The concept here is pretty amazing and to see it being brought to life like this and with such strong creative talent is really rather quite stunning. I am enjoying seeing Christopher get some flashes of light and not understand them and then to realise who he’s been in a past life, well it's all being presented in such a magnificent way. This is so incredibly well written with some solid, interesting characterisation and some gorgeous interiors that showcase why these creators are people I love to follow.
