Noy Marom, New York City Based Actress, Continues Path of Success with Theatrical Reading
Israeli Born Actress Makes a Home in NYC

An artists journey is a challenging one, but with great passion and talent there’s always a way. Still, some take shortcuts and such circumventions has Noy Marom asking an age old question. “How far will people go to find success,” said the actress. And it’s also the subject of new play that hopes to find a home in the NYC theatre scene.
The Dealers is a theatrical reading by Angie Kristic that got its first showing in August and tells the story of a World War II and Spanish Civil War veteran. Set in 1946, the young former fighter pursues his passion for art, and taking a village in the Parisian artistic scene, the creative meets a community and a mentor that changes his life.

For Noy’s part, her character subsists on the margins and hopes to escape the harsh reality of the times, “I played the lead role of Gabriela Mendes. A bar server and a refugee from Spain, she’s trying to find her way and take care of her only son,” said Marom.
A role she tapped into from her own life. Israeli born, she’s far from home and family, and Gabriella is in the same boat. So the reality easily translates. “Gabriela truly values her friendships, and the kind people she meets along her journey. This especially since she’s living far away from her family and the environment she grew up in,” Marom revealed. “So she's trying to create a beautiful life for herself that is true and does so through a brave, challenging journey. Really relating, I found that inspiring and was driven by that energy as I was doing my character work.”

Proximity or the lack of it wasn’t the only inspiration, though. “I think we all face different challenges in life, so we can all relate to rising up from difficult times and the hardships of life,” she said. “Gabriela always leads with her kindness and with her heart, as I believe I always try to as well.”
The process was also facilitated by the cast and crew, and the ease flowed from a top down perspective. Angie - the writer, director, producer - gave us a lot of freedom and support to truly shape our characters and really trusted us with the process. I feel like that immediately made everyone feel comfortable and having that energy is all you can really hope for while working on a creative project.”
As a result, the sentiment was impossible to contain. “We spent a lot of time trying different things, and I think that's what truly made the process and the final performance as successful as it was.”
So Marom is probably not alone in feeling that the vibe really helped bring out so much of her into the character and the relationships.
A real necessity given the broad reach of the drama. “So many different characters from different backgrounds and circumstances, eventually they find themselves in the center of the same life crossroads. And despite all of those differences, we find the universal message that we are all the same,” she clarified. “I think the play truly does a beautiful job with showcasing that.”
Of course, the next steps are in the making. “The director is planning to do another reading of the play at The Dramatists Guild in New York City this fall, which will hopefully lead to a full production in the near future,” Marom concluded.
