My Review of "The Sixth Sense"
I loved this movie when it first came out. Watching it again, so many years later, I still love it.

The Sixth Sense is a horror movie that came out in 1999. At the time, this movie made huge waves in pop culture because it was so different and fun. The twist that shook the world. I think that year we had a whole slew of major movie plot twists that blew our mind. 1999 was an amazing year for movies. This one in particular got to me because I didn't like horror movies, yet I was enamored this movie.
Now it's 26 years later and I thought I'd give this movie another shot. I wanted to see if I still loved this movie and how well it stood the test of time. I'm happy to say that I still am in love with it and it's just as good as it was back then.
The movie starts off with a celebration of sorts. Malcolm is a child psychologist that has recently won an award from the city. Him and his wife, Anna, are celebrating the win. This celebration is cut short. One of Malcolm's troubled patients, Vincent, has snuck into his house to shoot Malcolm and take his own life.
We cut to the next year and Malcolm is scoping out his next patient Cole. Cole seems to be a pleasant boy but oddly troubled. Everything seems to be normal but as the movie progresses we start to see more creepy things happening. Later down the line, Malcolm soon finds out Cole's situation strangely resembles the issues that Vincent used to have. Due to the similarities, Malcolm makes a bigger effort to figure out how to help Cole's situation.
This is easier said than done because Cole's condition is out of the ordinary and people would definitely think you're crazy if you told them what it is. That's part of the fun in the mystery of this movie. You know people won't believe you if you told them but it's the only way to get help. How does Cole trust anyone to keep his secret. Things are happening that are outside of his control and he's getting the blame for everything.
The big star of the show is the character development of all of the characters. They are so unique and distinct. There are multiple layers for each of the characters. Each of them have conflict within themselves. The cast does a wonderful job in bringing life to these characters. I felt really engaged with all of the things that were happening to each of them. Due to the fact that there are so many moving parts you see the push and pull of each character. Everyone is interconnected and I could see how this creates all of the anxiety and confusion in their minds.
There aren't any action scenes or big loud moments. The suspense really gets to you and this tension that builds from that suspense really gets to you. There are some real good moments where they really get you up to your feet because of the suspense. Another great thing about this movie is that there aren't really any dumb moments in this movie. The main characters aren't doing anything really dumb. They're all logical people that get put into bad situations. Sometimes they have to fight their fears to fix what's going on and it makes sense for them to check out that scary scene.
Overall, this is a slow burn of a movie but it is so satisfying. After all these years I still couldn't get over how invested I still was with this movie. It is still able to capture me and pull me into its world. I have to say it stood the test of time and for that I would say it is a classic for me. That's why I have to give this movie a 9 out of 10.
