My Review of "The F**k It List"

Idealistic circumstances through a series of incidents.

The F**k It List is definitely a movie geared toward young adults. It makes me wonder how far the youth actually absorb these types of messages today since we see it all the time. I understand that it's a great message to youth but I feel that it's a somewhat one sided opinion on how people should conduct themselves in daily life.

This movie starts out with the main character Brent. He's a studious kid in his final year in high school. He's trying to get into a great college by doing all of the things that his parents and society says he should do. I found it really odd that he was still fairly popular with his fellow students and has a bunch of friends. The story is that he's extremely studious and he doesn't have much time for anything yet he's able to keep up with his social circle.

His parents are an exaggeration of adults trying to live through their kids. Their worth is heavily based on the status of their child. It shows when all of the parents are keeping up with the Jones by comparing accomplishments.

It looks as though Brent is off to a set path. He's been accepted by all of the schools he had applied for with the exception of Harvard. The family really wants to push for him to get into Harvard but they're proud of Brent's achievements.

So it's the final year and of course the senior students are looking to conduct their traditional senior prank. Normally Brent would have nothing of this however a girl by the name of Kayla has caught his eye since childhood. She encourages him to have some fun and be himself. This encourages him to participate in the senior prank but it goes terribly bad.

Brent was unfortunately the only one implicated in the prank and this causes a ruffle in his future endeavors. He then goes into this spiral where he realizes that going to college isn't really what he wants. After realizing this he starts doing certain things that casing him to create a bucket list. This becomes the list that he's known for as his video of the list goes viral and he becomes the face of a bucket list movement.

There's a whole slew of interesting ideas in this movie but I think that a lot of it is made out pretty romantically where there doesn't seem to be any negatives for what he's trying to do. They do have one instance where they say that it's may not be all that great of a thing to get other kids involved but its really blip moment.

I like the fact that people are telling kids to live the lives that they want to live and not to be fearful of achieving their best. This is still very much a western world privilege movie though. There are a large amount of kids around the world that don't have this sort of opportunity. They're systemically held back and can't just pick up and live the lives the kids in this movie do.

Still it's a movie that's meant to entertain and I can see a lot of youth enjoying this ideals presented in this movie. It's pretty much what we hear over the Internet and social media everyday so it's kind of reinforcing the rhetoric that we hear daily everyday. That's why I didn't think they utilized all of the elements of the movie quite as well as I hoped.

The parents are used as comic relief with their absurd ideas and morally corrupt methods of resolving issues. The filmmakers don't even subtly let the audience know that the youth in this movie are way smarter than the adults in the movie. I was hoping for a little more comedy in this movie but I didn't get too much of it despite their efforts.

Overall, this movie was an okay distraction but somewhat vacant. I thought they had some interesting ideas but the execution of the whole movie kind of gave me a bad taste in my mouth. I have to give this movie a 6 out of 10. I'm sure there will be a lot of people that enjoy this movie and I don't take that away from you. I just thought this movie was made pretty irresponsibly.
