My Review of "The Bad Guys"
A very stylish animated adventure with a ton of twists.

The Bad Guys came out last summer in 2022. It's weird because it didn't get a ton of publicity despite being an animated family film. Usually films like this are advertised a lot. I was a little confused as to why they didn't because this is actually a pretty good film.
The movie starts off with the introduction of our Bad Guys. They're a rag tag group of misfits. There's the Shark who is a master of disguise, Tarantula who is a wiz with computers, Piranha is a hot headed brute, Snake is the go to guy to get bad things done and then there's Wolf who is the head of the operations. Each one of them has a skillset that is perfect in helping out in their elaborate heists.
I could already tell that the whole movie is about not judging a book by its cover. They slam this message at you constantly in this movie as these misfits never knew anything but being feared. That is until they finally get foiled for once. At this moment Wolf figures out a little plan to have the public perceive them in a positive light so they don't have to do jailtime.
This is where we focus more on Wolf and we start to see his transformation. In turn he starts to kind of affect his friends as well. It's a nice little story for kids and you'd think they'd quit with the simplicity of the story but they add a few twists. Being a heist film they have twist after twist and surprisingly it's easy to follow but I don't know how kids will take it. I hope they can keep up with all of the twists and turns they have closer to the end of the movie.
The way they made these turns in the story are quite comical and fun and that's what kept me going in the last half of the movie. I thought it was pretty well written and fun to watch.
Speaking fun to watch, the visuals for this movie are outstanding. In a world where there are so many cookie cutter looks in computer animated films this one looks different. There's a sense of style in this movie that is more 2d than 3d and that adds a lot to the aesthetics of this movie. Looking too 3d can make a movie get outdated really fast in the future. This movie opting to keep with a more 2d cartoonish look will give it legs years from now.
The high flying angles and fast paced scenes will grab your attention real fast throughout the action scenes. Surprisingly I was able to keep up with what was going on and none of it was in the dark so it was all in glorious color. These vibrant colors will have you feel like you're watching a beautiful party.
Each one of these characters will keep you feeling invited to this party as well. They're all lovable despite their evil intentions. It's all tongue in cheek and their hilarious antics will keep you wanting more. Also each of the characters feel very diverse. They all seem to have their own individual identity that sets them apart from everyone else.
Overall, I really liked this movie. I thought it was very well written and stylistically very beautiful. This is definitely a movie that a family could watch over and over again. Heck I could watch this movie this movie a few times myself. That's why I have to give this movie an 8 out of 10. Very good stuff and I hope they don't totally exploit this franchise to the ground.
