My Review of "No Hard Feelings"

This kind of felt like a straight to streaming video but not without great effort.

No Hard Feelings is a raunch comedy that came out in 2023. It's kind of strange because you don't expect too many raunch comedies to be able to come out nowadays with social awareness climate we live in now. I have to give this movie some extra credit because they pushed this movie as far as they could. I could tell that they put in some time and love into this one.

The movie starts off with Maddie. She's a down and out resident in a neighborhood becoming more and more affluent. Due to the amount of wealthy people purchasing property in her neighborhood the value of the houses have skyrocketed. This in turn has increased the owing tax for the property. I thought this was a very cool and relatable element to put into the movie.

Maddie can no longer pay the taxes for her home and this home has huge sentimental value for her. With that she's starts to take on debt and loses her car. Her car is her primary source of income as she's an uber driver. Now she has to figure out how she's going to keep the house and survive in this ever increasingly expensive world.

Her friends help her by finding a weird ad. The ad was placed by some very rich parents. Their 19 year old son Percy is incredibly socially awkward and is heading off to college next year. They want to open his social horizons and in the ad they offer a car to any woman that can "date" him. Essentially they want to hire an escort to fornicate with him.

Desperate for a car and to keep her house Maddie seems to be the only one willing to answer the ad. Her and the parents scheme a ruse to make it look like she just happens to fall into his life. What happens next is a bunch of very awkward social engagements with Maddie and Percy.

It's quite raunchy and they try to push the limits of what they can do in the movie. I thought there were some very funny scenes. Though there are some noticeably bad special effects added to this movie. There are few but they make this movie feel like it should have been played on TV instead of theatres.

The whole dynamics of the situation actually feel quite grounded on reality. There is a small bit of myself that could believe some of this could have been based off of a real situation. I think I was taken a little aback by how different young men and women interact with one another nowadays than they did in my time. For that I felt the movie felt a little outside of my universe but I still understood what they were getting at.

The performances by each of the actors is what really what shines here in this movie. I thought that they very much outshined the material that they were provided for the movie. Each of the characters are very much likable characters and you kind of cheer on each of them despite their many flaws.

The core of the movie of course is behind the characters' histories rather than their expected goals in the movie. With a little rejigging this movie could have more potential to become even better.

Overall, I thought that this movie was adequate to spend some time watching. I didn't find it overly offensive or anything. Though there are some shocking situations of sexual nature but by now they feel a little tame. I have to give this movie a 6 out of 10. I commend them in attempting to do something like this. It shows bravery and ambition, I hope they continue to do so.
