My Review of "Hubie Halloween"
I might be in the extreme minority but I kind of got a kick out of this movie.

Hubie Halloween is yet another Adam Sandler Netflix exclusive movie. The last Netflix exclusive that he starred in was Murder Mystery. I have to admit that I did enjoy that movie. His movies on Netflix have been kind of hit or miss but recently I think he's kind of been getting his footing back. Or maybe I'm starting to understand his type of humor and just understood what he was getting at with this movie.
This movie starts out with the the introduction of the main character Hubie. He's a local do-gooder that likes to volunteer to keep the streets of Salem safe during Halloween. His family has a lot of history to the famous town so he put it upon himself to take care of its citizens during this special night.
Of course it wouldn't be an Adam Sandler movie if the main character isn't bullied. I kind of like what he did with this movie. He doesn't go to the past to explain that Hubie has been bullied all his life. It's already implied and you can see that he's been bullied so often that he knows how to dodge their attacks when they come after him. The moves he pulls off are pretty superhero-esque. This was one of the funnier moments that I had with the movie. I don't know why I found it so funny but it was a nice twist to the bullied main character. He even has a swiss army thermos that he carries everywhere. It's like he's a bullied low end batman. They kept it fun and I stayed amused with his antics.
Throughout the movie this guy gets tormented by these bullies in the city. Some of the pranks for sure go a little overboard. This is to be expected, how else are we going to decipher the good and evil throughout this movie? That's one of the beauties of this movie. It's so simple and clear cut. It's hilarious how obvious it is sometimes.
So as Hubie starts his duty as the resident Halloween monitor there seem to be a few crazy things that happen throughout the little town that have the police and its citizens concerned. These events kind of happen out of the blue and not too many people are aware of them but the authorities are starting to clue in and Hubie definitely knows about them. The problem is that Hubie overreacts to everything and the police and his fellow townsfolk don't really believe him anymore.
As usual there is a long list of hilarious cameos in this movie and they have totally outrageous characters to play. The ridiculousness of all of these characters really got to me and I was howling at certain points. Just for your information, I was not under any influence while watching this movie either. I was genuinely laughing at all the ridiculousness that was happening.
Each of the characters are one dimensional but this is used as a tactic to help the audience understand that certain things are just going to fall into place for the punchline. Again, maybe I've just watched so many of these types of movies that I'm really starting to understand the concept and really come to appreciate them.
This movie soon turns into a mystery movie. They're obviously going to try to throw you off with certain characters in the movie and I think the reveal will have you laughing out loud for sure. At least it did for me. I thought watching through to the end had a good payoff because it really picks up in the last half of the movie.
I'm curious of how younger generations would like this movie. The film was pretty much made for all audiences. It isn't crude or disgusting so I think it's pretty family friendly. I think this was a pretty good decision because they didn't really need to make any racy jokes throughout this movie to make it any better. I think the level of jokes is adequate for all audiences. Adults will laugh at certain adult jokes while going way over the head of many younger kids.
Overall, I am probably one of the few that actually liked this movie. I know Adam Sandler gets a lot of flack for a lot of his movies but this one was quite enjoyable by me at least. It wasn't a masterpiece of course but you have to know how his movies are to appreciate them. I have to give this movie a 7 out of 10. To me, this is a movie worth watching at least once especially if you're in a wacky mood.
