My Review of "A Quiet Place: Part II"
I'm so happy to find out that they made a sequel to this movie!

A Quiet Place: Part II came out in 2020 but was lost in the shuffle of the pandemic. This story kind of hits a little close to home as the survivors of the alien invasion have been living in isolation just as long as we've lived in this current pandemic. Still there's a light at the end of the tunnel just as we feel right now after the 3rd wave of lockdowns.
This movie starts off oddly enough prior to the first movie. Life seems semi normal but you can tell something big is about to happen. We see the original family living their normal lives at a community baseball game. Everything seems too good to be true and we know it is. All of a sudden you see a comet in the sky and when it crashes all hell breaks loose on this small town.
That's when it cuts to their current timeline. This is right after the events of the first movie. The family has figured out a way to beat the monster but the father, Lee had sacrificed his life to save his family. Morale between the family is somewhat still high as they know that they can beat the aliens.
Next they have to find people to help them out. They have a newborn with them and their mother Evelyn is injured from the first movie. Not long after another child gets seriously injured.
The whole story revolves hope from one of the children. This child basically deciphers a code on the radio to find a safe zone with other people. Unfortunately for this child it's a little hard to believe something so good could be true in this crazy world. Everyone is skeptical but this movie is really about finding hope and overcoming odds to get there.
During the journey to find this safe zone we encounter other dangers that our protagonists never really expected. Everything in this movie is done with great simplicity. Oddly enough these scenes remain terrifying and thrilling at the same time. I found that this movie captured all the magic that the original movie had with new twists and turns to keep us on our feet. There's a danger in each corner and I couldn't wait to find out what it was going to be.
This sense of mystic and curiosity flowed throughout the movie. I think I was at the edge of my seat throughout the movie. Even though I knew something was going to happen I couldn't turn away. It was so engulfing and I loved every minute of it.
Each of the characters in this movie have such distinct qualities to them and yet they are still quite relatable. There was the odd one scene where a character goes out to look around and the concept makes no sense but in kept the tension going. This one scene is probably the only Achilles heel to the movie. Everything else was well thought out and totally engaging.
You also see a lot more of the monster in this movie than the last movie. There were one or two scenes where the CGI was a little too glaring but I got so lost in the story that it didn't matter too much. Still the glaring CGI kind of took me out of the story a little. At least they attempted to have more of the monster in this movie and it remained frightening as ever.
The way that this movie ended was kind of as abrupt as the first movie though. I thought that it was done that way to create a possibility of a third movie. There is still a lot of story to tell in this alien infested world. I did like the ending however it led me wanting more out of the franchise. It'll for sure create fans to pitch to studios for another movie.
Overall, I really liked this movie but I was a fan of the first movie anyways. I think that if you were a fan of the first movie this is a movie you have to see. If you haven't seen that first movie, you definitely have to see that movie first before going to this one. It's not totally necessary but I think you'll lose a lot of context if you don't watch it. I have to give this movie an 8 out of 10. I hope the fanfare of this movie is great enough to beg movie studios to film another sequel.
