My Review of "A Million Miles Away"
A very well crafted, entertaining and inspiring movie.

A Million Miles Away is an exclusive biopic on Amazon Prime. I am a bit of a sucker for inspirational biopic movies. When I first saw the trailer for this movie I thought it was going to be a homerun so I had to check it out the first chance I could. I'm so happy that I did because this movie is one of the better biopics out there.
It's all about the life of a man named Jose Hernandez. The movie starts off talking about his upbringing. His family based their living on migrant farm work. His father had to drive from city to city to help out people's farms. They barely made enough for a living but they worked hard. That's all that they knew.
Unbeknownst to them, Jose was a gifted student. One of Jose's first teachers saw tons of potential in Jose and was worried that their lifestyle could possibly hinder the young boy's educational growth. Again Jose's family is a struggling family so they don't really have much choice. Jose's father had a dream of being able to buying his own house.
Everything gets pushed aside when Jose's teacher talks to Jose's parents about his education. Jose's parents decided to sacrifice their dreams to give their children a better future. So they finally settled down in a town so that Jose and his siblings could flourish.
This held huge benefits for Jose. It helped him discover his ultimate goal of being an astronaut. Of course this sounds very far fetched but with the supportive people around him he starts to believe in himself. He's determined and follows his father's recipe for success.
Life kind of gets in the way but even that won't stop him from his ultimate goal. We see how much he had to struggle and what he had to do to get noticed by NASA. It is all incredibly ambitious and very inspirational, especially when you realize that the events of this movie actually took place.
I loved all of the characters in this movie. There's not one real bad guy in this movie except for the culmination of obstacles Jose has to overcome. It's almost as if he's his own real enemy in this movie.
Everything about this movie is very well crafted. You can tell that they planned a lot of the movie out meticulously. They use a lot of nice metaphors like the concept of the butterfly and the metamorphosis of Jose's character. There's a lot of self actualization that each of the characters have on their own. We don't have to go through all the struggles to see each of them learning who they are and what really matters.
The movie is well crafted so that it's structured through the foreshadows of the beginning sequence. Even though I knew what was going to happen it was still quite entertaining to go through the motions to see how it plays out. They have very good tear jerking moments with a lot of the characters as well. The build for some of these arcs could have been played off a bit more but the ultimate goal was accomplished in the end.
Overall, if you're looking for a very family friendly inspirational story you should really check this one out. I loved everything about it, the story, the characters and even the structure of the movie. This was a really entertaining movie for me and I had a blast watching it. I hope that they continue making content like this. That's why I have to give this one a 7.5 out of 10. It is something I would definitely recommend to people.
