The first anime TV show I watched other than Sailor Moon was Dragon Ball. I stepped out of my comfort zone and decided to watch a TV show about saiyan’s and saving the world. Childish, was what I first thought. Is it? Yes, but is it only for kids? No! Yes, some anime series are childish, but there are others that have drama, romance, horror, and all other genre’s just like your favorite TV shows and movies!
I started to watch it because my, who is now my husband, was into anime and thought I should give it a try. While most people started watching it in English first, I started it in Japanese with English subtitles. To me, you get the best experience watching it in Japanese, the sound effects and the language is beautiful! Watching the show, many emotions come to surface. You get invested with the characters and back story. We all like to escape the real world, with books, movies, games, and anime. Sometimes I like to pick out a character and see who resembles me at times. We all judge the first episode of any series to see if it will put us on edge and wanting more to where you have to binge a series all day and don’t even want to get up to use the restroom. You can certainly obtain that with an anime series, the episodes are short leaving you with more desire to see what happens next. I even love, well loathe the filler episodes!
I will get more into that later. Let me tell you one thing; transitioning from watching it in Japanese with English subtitles to watching it in English is completely different! It is Hilarious at best and is something you are not expecting. However, you prefer to watch an anime you will be hooked! Especially on those lazy nights when you do not feel like reading on the tv screen I will watch them in English. Be prepared for your favorite character to sound different! If you haven’t explored anime yet, I highly recommend you do.
Back to those filler episodes I was talking about. Not all anime shows have fillers, the main ones that I know of, because I watched them are Dragon Ball, Naruto, Boroto and Black Clover. Filler episodes are not in the manga, and you can choose to only watch the episodes that contain to the story. Filler episodes are different than the backstory, they are presented to allow for more manga chapters to be published, which are Japanese comic graphic novels.
Dragon Ball has a few different stories, there are Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball GT, and there are even a few movies! Some anime TV series gets a movie published, for more detail to the story line and the illustrations and graphics are established with more vibrant colors. Same thing with Naruto, Death note, another anime and Demon slayer.
I have been watching anime for a couple of years, it may have started off as an interest to share with my boyfriend, it is now something we both enjoy together and alone. We have a few we watch together, there are some anime series that I adore and him not so much. As I mentioned earlier there are many different genres to try out. You are bound to find one that will catch your eye! You must start somewhere, weather it is to share an interest or to try something new.
As I now have many favorites, Dragon Ball, was my first and will always have that special place in my heart along with the characters.
